Although I have not started at UCF yet, being in Orlando is amazing. There is so much to do and you have an abundance of opportunities there!

Although I have not officially started at UCF, while I was there to visit I noticed how diverse the student were in all areas, from sexual orientation to religious background.

Every sport at the University of Central Florida has so many supporters and school spirit. Students at UCF get into games for free and get chances to win prizes such as an iPad. Athletic facilities at the university are very high tech and offer many different ways to get active. The two-story recreational building and the large campus provide a healthy way to get into shape.

I am Greek personally and absolutely love being a part of the Greek community! However, there is a LOT of animosity between Greeks and Non-Greeks on campus. When one considers that less than 5% of the 50,000 undergrads here are greek, then you kind of get a sense of the problem. Many Non-Greeks view us as privileged, partiers, and try hards. They say that being Greek is a waste of money without ever having been involved themselves. However, the overall greek GPA is higher than that of the Non-Greek UCF student AND we do a ton of community service work throughout the year. In fact I manage to be actively involved in my chapter and maintain a 3.9 GPA here so don't be afraid that you can't balance both school and greek life commitments. Overall, though I don't rate Greek life here highly because of the animosity among students and the strictness that the administration oversees us with now.

The campus is not strict at all and you can pretty much get away with anything here. Just don't throw a huge party in your dorm.
College Sophomore 2013-06-04T19:46:30Z
Students are apathetic in terms of the sports teams. The gym is a big focal point of campus and its extremely nice! However, it's too full of guys that love to drop weights and stare at themselves in the mirror for my liking.

I've found the professors in the History department here to be very knowledgable.
College Sophomore 2013-06-04T19:41:59Z
I've never found instance to use the computers on campus as I have my own laptop.

I attended a nationally recognized boarding school and now that I'm at UCF I find these classes to be a joke. The only grade I've made lower than a full A was one B+. Teachers for the most part are caring but it's clear that they dumb down some of the material so all the students can understand it. Simply put if you study, then you will do well. However, If you do find yourself struggling be sure to check out SARC or SI sessions! The tutors are very friendly and knowledgable! Overall, I find the workload to be very light compared to high school.

IT IS HOT. From April until about September it is hot and muggy. Over summer it tends to rain more making the mugginess worse. You dont see a lot of sweaters and pants throughout the year.

SO many options for off-campus housing. The prices are too high in my opinion for what you get. Better off leasing a house with friends because it is cheaper.
College Senior 2013-06-04T18:21:14Z
A lot of options for students, faculty, and other work members on campus. No discounts really on campus occasionally free food will be given out.
College Senior 2013-06-04T18:19:37Z
A lot of clubs and bars around campus. There are buses for students who want to go downtown. Overall, a lot of different atmospheres for anyone's interest.
College Senior 2013-06-04T18:17:47Z
Many of the dorms are a decent walk from the main campus for classes or other uses.
College Senior 2013-06-04T18:15:21Z
There are a lot of restaurants around campus with different food options and many have student discounts or weekly specials.

Orlando is an extremely fun city to live in if students are into theme parks. Universal Studios, Disney, SeaWorld, etc. are all within a 20 minute drive from UCF. If that does not interest people, the nightlife is also great in downtown Orlando. The famous "Church Street" is where you will find huge crowds of people every night of the week, especially on any holidays like Halloween or the 4th of July. And can't forget about the shopping malls located throughout the city! Regular malls and outlet malls are huge and amazing, you will not leave empty-handed!

The parking at UCF is not pleasant whatsoever. It's nearly impossible to find a spot, and it is best to arrive 30 minutes-1 hour before class starts because that is exactly how long it will take to find a parking space sometimes.
College Sophomore 2013-05-31T22:46:39Z
The off-campus housing selection at my school isn't too bad. There is a lot of off-campus housing around the school. With that being said, you have a selection to choose from. However, some of the off-campus housing can be a little expensive. Majority of the off-campus housing has a shuttle that runs back and forth between the school and housing as well.

Overall, the weather is very good. It is central Florida, so the summers are very humid and hot. Otherwise, the year is pleasant.

UCF has insufficient parking for students, though one can almost always find a spot eventually. The permit costs and fines are very reasonable. If you live on campus, you will not need a car. There is even a busing service that periodically picks up students from off-campus housing and returns them.

Health & Safety:
The UCF campus has its own real deputized police force, including a SWAT team. Through email and (optional) texting, it keeps students informed about crime, law enforcement activity, and suspicious events. The walkways are lit at night. Also, for people who desire it, there is a service that helps drive people securely around the campus at night. As in many colleges, there is almost no crime that happens on campus, even though the area immediately surrounding the college actually does have a fair amount of crime. Still, I feel very safe both on and around campus.

While most of the professors I have had at UCF are very effective teachers, most of them are also very slow to respond to email (or simply do not respond at all), which makes communication difficult. The registration process is very clumsily designed. Even when the student has figured out the process, it remains agonizingly inefficient and illogical. The number of courses, at least in the political science and philosophy departments, leave much to be desired. Even though I register extremely early, I find there are few choices to help me toward fulfilling my plan of study. I fear that I may end up studying an extra semester because of the unavailability of relevant classes. As far as study areas go, the campus has a lot to offer. I like to read by the Reflection Pond. The library also offers several small, quiet study rooms that a lot of people find helpful.

I am an Interdisciplinary Studies major at UCF, studying political science and philosophy. The course load is quite heavy, though it leaves one with enough free time to reasonably work a part-time job. The professors I have studied with are very effective teachers and highly informed in their respective disciplines.
The Interdisciplinary program at UCF is very small- my class has a total of 3 students- though the actual classes we attend nearly always have about a dozen, since they belong to the philosophy or political science departments. Because the Interdisciplinary program is so little, it does not receive much grant money- so assistantship/fellowship opportunities are limited. On the plus side, applicants do not face much competition!

Greek life only makes up about %3 of the population on campus, but they are everywhere. Greeks on campus make sincere, conscious efforts to be active members of the community, both for social aspects as well as service. At all major campus events, there is a strong positive Greek population. Even with the issues with some of the fraternities hazing, it was such as small representation of their presence on campus, that it hardly puts a dent in the impact Greek life has on campus.

Florida weather is a bit temperamental, but all and all, the weather year round is warm and sunny, with a light chance of rain and temperatures varying from the mid 70s to about 90 degrees at the hottest. UCF also offers accommodation for rain as well as air conditioning that is exceptional.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
