College Prowler Take
There are several computer labs on campus, all of which are very accommodating to the students. You shouldn’t have a problem finding a computer to use as long as it’s not during finals week. During finals week, you may want to go early to hunt out a computer, or bring a laptop from home if you have one. The library offers a fabulous service that rents out laptops for up to four hours at a time! Of course, you can’t leave the library premises with them, but you can set up anywhere in the library and connect wirelessly to the Internet instantly. UCF has a fast wireless connection that would satisfy even the most impatient person. The computers are new and up-to-date, with easy access to all of UCF’s programs. It would be nice if printing was free, but the five-cents-per-page fee isn’t too bad. You are permitted up to 20 pages of free printing per day at the Student Government Lab, which is helpful and sufficient. Overall, the technology at UCF is good enough to enable students to get the job done. We’re no MIT, but UCF is not technologically obsolete by any means.

The network is awful. It rarely has a consistent connection in the residence halls. It's very slow at certain times, almost unusable. Yes, you have to have a computer.

The computer labs are acceptable....
The computer labs are acceptable. We have almost 50,000 students, and you can't expect UCF to have a computer terminal for all of us. There is a rather solid wireless network that runs all over campus; however there are some parts of campus that get little to no reception. This goes for cell phone reception as well. I would absolutely bring your own computer, and a small, lightweight Mac laptop works just perfectly.

Computer labs are always crowded, but the library has laptops students can check out when all the computers are taken. I wish there was free printing.

The libraries provide laptops, which is awesome! There are not many, so if you don’t go at the right time, you should bring your own. |

Charged to Print?
Yes - Most labs charge 5 cents per black and white page. The library charges 10 cents.
Did You Know? There are plug-in ports for Internet access in the Starbucks cafe located in the bookstore. You can sign out laptops for personal use on the third floor of the library.
You must have money on your student identification card in order for your document to print. Most major labs don’t charge a printing fee, such as the engineering lab and the English lab. There’s a student government lab on the second floor of the student union that’s open to all students and allows you to print up to 20 pages per day free of charge. The SGA lab has a fax machine that only costs students a dollar for local calls. There’s also a poster machine available to students, along with an office supply station with hole punchers, staplers, tape, paperclips, and so on available for student use.
