Parking Permits

Student permits cost anywhere from $42 to $181, depending on the requested parking area, and even up to $473 per year for the East or West towers parking garage.

Parking permits may be purchased online at http://www.parking.ucf.edu/. Students can choose to have their permits mailed or to be picked up at Main Parking Services Office (Garage B across from the Recreation and Wellness Center). But if you go in the middle of the day, there will almost always be a line. The line will get longer the longer you wait, so order your permit at least two weeks before the semester starts and have it mailed to you. Don’t forget to print out, or at least write down, your confirmation number—if for some reason you don’t get your tag in time, parking services will issue you a temporary tag until it comes.

College Prowler Take

Parking seems to be quite a sore subject with UCF students. Most students arrive on campus 30 minutes early in anticipation of not being able to find an immediate spot. Students often circle around in the garages and the lots waiting for other students to walk to their car, then, resembling stalkers, they follow these students to their cars. Finding a spot can be competitive when it comes to a bunch of impatient students trying to make it to class. Don’t let someone steal a spot from under you. Use your blinkers and remain cool.

Most students frequent the campus in the beginning of each semester, causing a real headache where parking is concerned. After about the first month, parking becomes a little easier. Don’t expect to luck out with a superstar spot close to your classroom. Be prepared to trek across campus in the heat. Sometimes, students have to park as far away as the arena to find a parking spot. You just have to keep driving until you find a spot; you never know when someone is leaving campus. Never park in a spot that isn’t designated for students (faculty spot, handicapped spot); Parking Services will catch you and you’ll be sure to find a green parking ticket waiting for you on your windshield. Follow all signs and permit procedures when parking!

UCF parking is definitely not the worst of the worst, but it's certainly not great. If you get on campus past 10 a.m., you're screwed out of an easy spot. Count on a solid 20-30 minutes of spot-searching.

Freshmen can bring a car! Depending on the time of day, parking can either be a breeze or a pain. The campus is notorious for its limited amount of parking space, but there are many shuttles from the affiliated housing complexes and within the campus.

As a transfer student, I love UCF parking. There are so many garages and lots for students. It takes less than 10 minutes for me to park at UCF as compared to an hour and a half at FSU.

Did You Know?

Best Places to Find a Parking Spot
The Education lot normally has spots available. The arena always has spots available, but can be quite a hike from your classroom. The first three weeks of the semester it is difficult to find parking anywhere.

After 5:30 p.m., students may park in faculty and staff lots, only with a current, valid decal. The Faculty Lots (G-6) next to the Fine Arts Building (Colbourn Hall) and a designated row of Faculty parking spaces in the unpaved lot (T-600) directly South of the UCF Arena and (T-1000) are only open to students after 7 p.m.

Meter parking is enforced until 9 p.m.

Good Luck Getting a Parking Spot Here
The gym parking lot. Look for alternative places to park when going to the gym.

UCF Shuttle
There is a UCF shuttle service that stops on campus and at 15 off-campus locations. Shuttles are accessible to all students for free, and they’re conveniently accessible for disabled students, as well. The shuttle runs Monday–Friday 7 a.m.–10 p.m. The shuttle makes round trips approximately every 15 minutes.

Tips
Though there’s much parking available on campus—there are more than 18,000 spots reserved for students—there’s still some advice that new students may want to abide by. There are four, four-story parking garages on-campus, as well as short-term metered spots and parking lots. While there are tons of spaces, different lots fill up at different times of the day, so students are always parking in different areas. Also, some of the closest lots are dirt lots and make your feet and car dirty. While these lots are intended to be the sites of future parking garages, students are expected to park in the unpaved lots in the mean time.

Another bonus is that if a student lives on campus, that student will get a special parking decal—but on the downside, they’re more expensive.
