It is usually hot on campus. I usually wear a pair of shorts with a T-shirt.

Public transportation is excellent. I live off campus, but we have a shuttle that comes every 10 minutes and drops me off directly in the center of campus.

The University of Central Florida is a great school. It is very diverse with a lot of opportunities to succeed. I love the people there and the social life. Orlando is a great place to live, with many attractions around. I am very happy I made the choice to go to UCF.

UCF is definitely working on...

UCF is definitely working on building up their sports, which is a cool thing to watch. Our basketball teams (men and women) are pretty good, and so is our softball team. Intramural sports are very easy to get involved with---free, fun, and a great way to stay in shape while having fun with friends. I met new people that way, too.

UCF is considered a metropolitan...

UCF is considered a metropolitan university, but it honestly doesn't feel that way. I love that our surrounding area feels like a college town, and yet the glamour of downtown is only 20 minutes away. While there is a lack of overall school spirit in this town, there is a plethora of things to do---that's for sure.

There are plenty of restaurants in the UCF area. Most of the places around campus are chains, although the Japanese places are generally pretty good. Going downtown is great if you want a variety of places to eat, but that can be pricey! Hue is pretty good and fairly inexpensive.

The gym at UCF is awesome, but can get super crowded. I can't stand our library---it's old, very dark, and kind of creepy. I would suggest studying at Panera or somewhere else off campus.

UCF parking is definitely not the worst of the worst, but it's certainly not great. If you get on campus past 10 a.m., you're screwed out of an easy spot. Count on a solid 20-30 minutes of spot-searching.

There are basically three or four bars in the area that students frequent most, and they are definitely typical bars---smelly, dirty, and full of Greeks and people looking to get laid. I've heard going downtown is more fun and diverse, though! I stick to the house parties. You get to choose who you hang out with that way.

It's Florida, so it is hot. But it can get cooler, too, so bring clothes to layer, plus plenty of summer clothes. Jeans are a must.

We have campus police, but I don't necessarily feel safe around campus when it gets dark, particularly in some of the parking lots and garages.

Off-campus housing is readily available and certainly worth it. It is less expensive and can be bigger, also usually allowing pets. Realtors are available, but it is easy to go to individual apartment complexes and get information from them directly.

The library is great and has plenty of student study areas and private study rooms. The student union is good, with space for a number of various events. The athletic center at UCF is fabulous. There is plenty of machinery, tracks, classes, and a rock wall.

I see buses all the time, but I do not use the public transportation around UCF.

Greek life is a really big part of student life at UCF. Something like 30 percent of students are involved with a Greek organization, whether social, academic, or professional. The Greek organizations all come together for good causes, though, no matter what their philanthropy is, which is really nice.

Freshmen can bring a car, but make sure, no matter who you are, to come to class at least 20 minutes early to park.

People are UCF are generally hot. People here stay in shape. I think the nearby beach is motivation—it is for me!

Off-campus restaurants are a lot...

Off-campus restaurants are a lot better than on-campus food. The only problem is that you need a car, so if you don't have one, you'll have to catch a ride. Most of the restaurants are located in Waterford. Alehouse has good drink specials, and Urban Flats is a really good place to get some flatbreads.

Food on campus is good. Red Brick Pizza is awesome, and they make a good salad. They have the typical spots like Burger King, Chik-fil-A, and Subway, but overall, I think healthier options should be offered on campus. There's a lot of junk food, especially in the student union.

The network is awful. It rarely has a consistent connection in the residence halls. It's very slow at certain times, almost unusable. Yes, you have to have a computer.

They are very strict. If you get caught doing something you shouldn't be, you get slapped with academic probation. This is damning. There is a no-tolerance policy for these sort of things, so your best bet is to avoid it at all costs. If it happens in campus housing, you can say hello to expulsion.

The Rec and Wellness Center is...

The Rec and Wellness Center is very crowded. It is open until about midnight, so it isn't exactly available all of the time, and whenever it is open, it is packed. I personally find it more beneficial to use LA Fitness (not campus affiliated), but it does cost a considerable amount of money each month. There is plenty of food on campus, but there always seems to be something missing in the sense that you are always looking for that place with that food you want and you just can't seem to find it on campus.

The computer labs are acceptable....

The computer labs are acceptable. We have almost 50,000 students, and you can't expect UCF to have a computer terminal for all of us. There is a rather solid wireless network that runs all over campus; however there are some parts of campus that get little to no reception. This goes for cell phone reception as well. I would absolutely bring your own computer, and a small, lightweight Mac laptop works just perfectly.
