It’s not difficult to find off-campus housing in Hyde Park, and most people are out of the dorms by their second year. However, the options are dominated by MAC Apartments, and they are notoriously bad landlords. They are not very responsive to problems. Unless you are lucky enough to find an independent landlord (and they do exist), that’s the company you’re stuck with. The good news is that there is a variety of options available, from a one-bedroom to a six-bedroom, and they’re all over Hyde Park.

A lot of the great apartments are passed down from upperclassmen to underclassmen that they know. If you aren’t friends with upperclassmen who are leaving their apartment, it can be a little difficult to find the perfect place. However, there’s a MAC office right on campus that will help you find a good fit. Apartments are very affordable, and it’s cheaper to live off campus and go grocery shopping than to live in a dorm with a meal plan. In Hyde Park, you do get what you pay for when it comes to apartment buildings. If you want an incredibly nice apartment, you’ll want to look at the buildings on the lakefront. If you’re OK with a college apartment that has its quirks but is still livable, you can definitely find a place near campus.
