Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Campus used to be ugly, and for years, the University went through a period of massive construction. Now, students have nothing but positive things to say after big changes have been made in some of the most popular facilities. The Campus Recreation Center is a state-of-the-art fitness center. It’s ideal for students looking to work out between classes, and there’s so much to do, you can’t possibly get bored. The facilities are extremely clean, even down to the locker rooms and the pool. The fitness level is exceptional, with more than 22,000 pounds of free weights and more than 220 machines, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Best of all, the Rec is free for full-time students, so it’s silly not to take advantage of what it has to offer.

The Tangeman University Center has undergone changes, making progress on choices in the food court and hangout areas throughout the building. TUC is a great place to meet friends, grab a bite to eat, and kill time between classes. It’s not an ideal place for studying because this is a popular spot on campus to socialize, but it’s great for meeting new people or meeting up with good friends. The facilities are clean, despite the fact that things get busy during the day. The bookstore is also in the TUC and it is massive. You can find almost anything you need for school here and then some.

CSD Program

The building where the CSD classes are located is old and lacks windows. The classrooms are crowded. Some staff and profs are in cubicles. It's cramped. The department deserves a bigger space, but it is conveniently located next to the med school and the health science library.

Lack of Student Interaction on UC's Campus

When I attended the University of Cincinnati there were too many separate groups of people often distiquished by race. What really bothered me that there were so many students that are loners. Sure they all try to play tough guy or gal but deep down inside they lack the proper people skills to socialize and make friends.

When you go into the student center you see a lot of students sleeping instead of studying. I bet if some of their parents knew they were sleeping instead of studying they would get a stiff reality check. Another observation I made about UC's main campus is that it encourages poor eating habits. Most of the nutritional foods for the students cost too much so the students have to eat junk food and drink pop.

There are also safety issues at UC's main campus where students and staff are being assulted as they go to their cars. This is not cool because someone is going to get seriously hurt and it may not be the victim. I think these are just hate crimes by people who have violence on their mind and think nothing can stop them from committing a crime. It's not a good idea to instill fear into an unsupecting person even a woman who may not realize her stength when in a intimidating situation.

Maybe UC might want to form a safety committee to ensure that students and faculty are safe returning to their cars or off campus residencies.

I used the library at UC often and their were some mean librarians there who may have been overwhelmed with personal problems and lashed out at me once. This should not be tolerated by whomever is in charge of the library. As a student, you have the right to use the library and ask questions if you need to. The library needs to hire students for that specific purpose probably offer them work study. The problem is there are so many older people returning to college and they need help with new technology.

The rec center on UC's main campus is smelly and they should practice more cleaning methods. All in all I enjoyed my attendence at the University of Cincinnat because I was working to get my degree but they should be open to changes.

UC Facilities

Most of the facilities on UC's campus are relatively new. They have mostly up-to-date technology which is very useful. All the buildings are very clean and attractive. The only problem is cell phone service in most of these buildings is very lacking. Trying to meet up with somebody in the library where you don't have service is very difficult.

Favorite Things To Do

Many UC students hang out off campus, but when the weather is warm, students spend a lot of time on the green space on campus. It’s common to see students playing football or Frisbee, sunbathing, or having lunch with friends. The student center is also a popular hangout year-round. Many times there are guest speakers, group meetings, and movie screenings there. In general, students tend to go off campus for entertainment, especially since more restaurants, bars, and hangouts are making their way into the Clifton area.

Work out at the Campus Recreation Center, grab a bite to eat or play games at the Catskeller Game Room and Lounge, play football or Frisbee on the green space during warm weather, play intramural sports, or get a group of friends together to play basketball at the Rec.
