Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

For some students at UC, Greek life is a big part of their college career. However, compared to other universities, UC Greek life is not as widespread and prominent, and while the University has plenty of fraternities and sororities, being a part of one is not a big deal. You can join one if you like, but there are plenty of other groups and clubs to join if you want to meet new people and get involved. The Greek houses are nice for those who choose to live in them, but it may not be the best place if you’re looking for some peace and quiet—especially on the weekends. If socializing is important, however, it may be something worth looking into. Most fraternities and sororities hold events together, so Greek members are able to meet Greeks in houses other than their own, so because of this, they tend to stick together as a community. The organizations are really involved in the Cincinnati community as well, so they tend to get a little more respect—they aren’t just all about partying.

In most cases, non-Greeks can befriend people who are involved in fraternities and sororities and get into their parties and social events without having to pay all the membership fees. Though some students in Greek life are stuck-up, most are down to earth and treat non-Greeks with respect. There is not a huge divide between Greeks and other students—most non-Greeks just tend to do their own thing.

Greek Swag Sauce

A lot of my friends pledged Greek frats. They're really cool people. The stereotype is usually that they're snobby and stuck up, but at UC, the Greeks do great things for the community.

Greek Life

There is a lot of Greek life activities and have real fun events and dances at the beginning of the year, but as soon as rushing is over, unless you have an "in" at a fraternity or sorority you won't be allowed at parties or events.

There but Not a Bid Part of School

We have different sororities and fraternities to join. I have never been apart of one but they are constantly doing things around campus. There is a small part of the school that belongs to the greek life and they are mostly known for their parties that they throw for certain events on campus.

Did You Know?

Every spring, the UC Greek community holds Greek Week, when fraternities and sororities raise money for charity. Chapters come together to compete for points by participating in contests. They also hold individual fundraisers throughout the week to raise more money for the Greek Week fund.

Each year during Homecoming weekend, Greeks come together to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation by participating in a 5K run. All proceeds benefit the foundation.

Fraternities and sororities also hold ice cream socials and “Meet the Greeks” events at the beginning of each school year to draw students to learn about the Greek community and possibly become members.
