College Prowler Take
Among UC students, safety still remains a big concern. In response, the University police department has taken steps to make campus a safer environment for students and staff, particularly at night. In the past few years, on-campus crime has gone down due to additional lighting, blue-light phones, and police presence. The UCPD has also established programs to provide students with escorts and rides home at night. When walking across campus at night, it’s best to walk with a friend.
One thing UC students can agree on is the prevalence of crime off campus. It’s best to never walk home alone if you live off campus because of the amount of foot traffic in the neighborhoods surrounding campus. For the most part, the neighborhoods are made up of students, but crimes still happen because of criminals coming in from other areas. It’s best to be safe, so take one of the University shuttles or utilize the NightWalk services. UCPD cruisers or Cincinnati police officers are occasionally seen driving through areas around campus, but it’s not often enough to feel safe, especially on darker side streets. It’s also important that students keep their cars and apartments locked at all times, especially during extended breaks when thieves tend to go looking for items to steal. Be on the defense, and you’ll be safe at UC.

From what I have heard and experienced, there really is not too much crime. Anytime an incident occurs, the school makes sure to e-mail everyone at the school, unless those students do not happen to be enrolled at the time, such as during the summer months, which is a bit disturbing considering a good portion of us still live in the area in the summer. |

Safety is always an issue on campus. Reports are conflicted on whether crime is up or down, but the point is it does happen. We have safety phones around campus and transportation systems in place to take students home after dark. |

UC is pretty secure. I never feel unsafe or in danger when I’m on campus at night. There are constantly police cars around campus, and UC provides students with shuttles from campus to home. I think the crime at UC is like crime at any university. |

Although Clifton as a whole has a lot of problems with crime, the one place where that seems to be most under control is on campus. There are certain streets where walking at night is just not safe, but I’ve always felt safe walking through campus at night. |

Our campus is as safe as a campus can be. At night, there are police constantly driving around, and there is even night watch and blue emergency buttons around every corner. Off campus, it is like any other typical college, and yes, that means there is crime. Sometimes this causes people to get the perception that campus is unsafe, but that is wrong. It may have been like that in the past, but it isn’t anymore. |
