Quick Stats

School Slang
  • A&S: McMicken College of Arts and Sciences
  • CCM: College-Conservatory of Music
  • CoB: College of Business
  • DAAP: College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. Students who spend a great deal of time in the studio are referred to as “DAAPers.”
  • TUC: Tangeman University Center. TUC is the essentially the University’s student center.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • For some courses, UC has free tutoring that you can receive by just signing up. It is free to all students, and the tutors are generally nice and friendly.
  • Get anything that your advisors says or any other important decision/matter in writing because it could come haunt you later on—like when you are about to graduate.
  • It is hard to make friends. You are not with the same people every day and most people take classes with friends, so it is harder to make connections to people on campus. If you can, get involved with a learning community when you’re a freshman so you are in the same classes with the same people. It gets lonely with no one to talk to.
  • More about the co-op program because it would have made the decision to go to UC much easier and much quicker.
  • Parking is bad. It is hard to find somewhere to park every day without paying a hefty price.
  • The Clifton area.
  • You are going to do a lot of walking. It’s definitely a workout getting to and from class.
Tips to Succeed
  • Always carry an umbrella with you.
  • Buy a winter coat. Or two. Maybe three. You’ll need warm clothes for winter.
  • Get as much experience as possible during your tenure at UC. The internship and co-op programs at UC are strong and continue to grow, so it would be silly not to get involved as soon as possible. The more experience a student can get working in the field, the better. Plus, with Cincinnati being such a diverse town, there is surely an opportunity for almost any student.
  • Get involved on campus! It sounds cliché and you’ll hear it a hundred times, but it’s important to get involved early to build relationships, connections, and make new friends. The people you meet by being involved in student and professional organizations can help you with references and jobs in the future, so it’s a great way to network. The faculty and staff advisors of student organizations are helpful and willing to aid students who are looking for advice or references. Plus, you’ll meet other students who you can study with or just hang with.
  • Have an open mind about everything.
  • If you aren’t living on campus, it may be harder to meet people. Find at least one organization to get involved with so you can begin networking early and start to form relationships with other students.
  • Live near or on campus. Students say they feel more connected to the UC community when they live in the Clifton area because they get the full college experience. The University has a majority of commuter students who may be missing out on the atmosphere that makes UC so great.
  • Use the resources the University provides. UC offers tutoring services, counseling services, technology resources, and so much more. The administration has taken an active role in ensuring that students get the help they need, whether academically or in their personal lives. In many cases, the services are free or come at a low cost to students. It’s also convenient because these services are right on campus.

I Wouldn't Go Anywhere Else

I thought UC offered a variety of interesting and fun classes. I like how I could create my own schedule instead of being told what to take. Overall, it was a very nice school.

Campus in Short

The campus feels like a small community and everything is very close together.

Co-Op

UC is a very friendly campus. It also offers one of the top (#2 maybe?) co-op programs in the nation, although I don't know anyone outside of DAAP who's actually done it.

Urban Legends Legend has it that there is a body of a construction worker in Crosley Tower. Supposedly when the concrete was being poured, he fell in, leaving his body in the hardened foundation of the building. However, it’s all just hearsay.
