| Advice on Finding a Job/Internship | |
Students who are looking for internships should do so early, especially spring and summer internships, which many students are also looking for. Talk to your advisors and professors for help finding an internship that's right for you. If you don’t feel ready to apply for internships it may mean you aren’t comfortable with your major. Take some extra classes in your concentration until you feel you have the knowledge to go out on your own.
If your field is highly competitive, seek out companies that UC students aren’t working with. You’ll be more likely to get an interview and there will be less competition for the job. If a summer internship is what you’re looking for, look outside the Cincinnati area for even more opportunities. Remember, an internship could mean a job after graduation, so pursue all your opportunities with that in mind. Work hard and be professional on the job and in interviews. It could pay off in the long run with the company offering you a full-time position.
Another great tool is the Career Development Center, which provides students with information on careers, internships, and help finding a major that’s right for them. The center’s staff is friendly and willing to help any UC student (whether undergraduate or graduate) and even alumni. Staff members are available to help students find internships, give advice on interviewing, and offer help with resumes.
