Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The area surrounding campus has a variety of restaurants, so it’s almost impossible not to find something to eat. You have your choice of pizza places, Asian, Greek, and German fare, American favorites, and healthy options. Students can try new things that on-campus eateries simply don’t offer, and the off-campus restaurants tend to be less crowded. The only exception to this rule would be Chipotle, which can be crowded around lunchtime because of the restaurant’s popularity among students and the community.

The off-campus eateries are pretty affordable, and some places deliver, such as the pizzerias, Jersey Mike’s Subs, Penn Station, and Bagel Brothers. But, don’t worry if your favorite spot doesn’t deliver because a majority of restaurants are within a 10-minute walk of campus. It’s very easy to grab a quick bite to eat on Calhoun Street or West McMillan Street before classes. The only downside to off-campus dining is the lack of late-night food options. Despite the extraordinary number of restaurants in the area, only a handful stay open late, leaving fewer options for students late at night. On weekends, it’s not such a problem, but during the week you may want to keep your fridge stocked with snacks.

Convenience

UC has tons of off-campus dining. The cost is average and you can use your student ID as a "credit card" for food (of course you have to load money on it, link it to a checking account or purchase a meal plan which gives you bearcat bucks to spend).

Go to Calhoun Street for All You Can Eat

On and around Calhoun Street (which is right next to campus) is where all the best restaurants are. There's chains like Chipotle, Buffalo Wild Wings, Panera, and Starbucks, but also some delicious pizza places like Papa Dinos and Toppers. There's also a good selection of ethnic food from Mediterranean (Chicago Gyro), Chinese (King Wok), and Indian (Krishna). Pretty much every restaurant hasgreat student discounts and deals. Definitely check out Mac's Pizza Pub and Yogurt Vi--best places for pizza and frozen yogurt respectively!
