Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

If you want to be in touch with the University community but don’t want to live in a dorm your entire college career, off-campus housing is right for you. The apartments around campus are what you would expect: a little rundown but sufficient for the price you pay. In most cases, the neighborhoods around UC are full of college students, so it can sometimes be hard to study if your housemates or neighbors are the partying type. Parties tend to get a little rowdy at the beginning and end of the school year and on certain holidays such as St. Patty’s, Halloween, and Cinco de Mayo. The best part about off-campus housing is there are so many options for places to live. It’s also a great opportunity to make friends, and you’re still close enough to UC to get involved on campus. It can be hard to meet people if you are only on campus for classes.

The downside to living off campus is security—or lack thereof. At night, the streets surrounding UC can be a scary area, and it’s best not to walk alone when you are more susceptible to being mugged or attacked, which is not all that uncommon here. However, if you utilize the shuttle and safety services provided by the University or walk with a buddy, it’s not so scary.

The Early Bird Gets the Worm

There are plenty of great places to live off campus but combining the right place and location is difficult so be sure to start looking early and don't let the good ones slip away!

Awesome

There are so so many places to live around UC, and much cheaper than on campus. Directly south of campus is were most undergrads live, and there tends to be more parties and theft in that area. There is also not much parking, but places are cheap. To the west of campus is alright, but the best is north of campus in the Clifton/gaslight area. This area is wonderful, no crime, lots of restaurants, shops, yoga studios and more.
