Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Parking is easily the biggest problem a student will face when coming to UC. With so many students and so little parking on campus, it’s hard for the University to accommodate everyone. Students who do opt to park on campus do so at a hefty price, which is just another excessive cost in addition to books, tuition, and daily expenses. If you don’t buy a pass, you could be stuck feeding a parking meter or paying cash daily for parking in University garages, which adds up over the course of the year. Even if you buy a parking pass, it still may be difficult to find a parking spot in the garage. Though the University limits the number of passes per garage, it seems impossible to find a good spot in the garage sometimes. This is especially true if you come to school later in the morning/early afternoon. It can get frustrating to park on the top floor of the garage every day, especially if you leave campus late at night and have to walk through the garage alone. They are desolate at night, so if you have to stay late, try and move your car closer to the stairs so it’s not as creepy.

Even though parking is a hassle, most students are glad they aren’t required to pay for it. Instead of making every student to pay extra tuition to pay for parking, Parking Services leaves it an option to park in university garages or lots. Having this option is good for students who don’t come to campus every day and don’t need daily parking or for students who want to save money by trying to find a spot on the street. If you opt to park on the street, however, be prepared for some frustration. It may be easiest just to cough up the cash for a garage, at least until you get used to campus.

Parking

If you're bringing a car to school, buy a permit! They normally range from $150-$250 a quarter, depending on the garage you choose. UC Police like to give out parking tickets, so be careful when parking on streets.

Horrible Parking

UC has hands down the worst parking! Don't expect to find a free parking spot unless you drive around for at least 30 minutes. The best bet would be to buy a parking pass early. Save you time.

Facts

Getting a Parking Permit

Students can purchase parking permits online or at the Parking Services office at Four Edwards Center. Decals sell quickly since parking spaces are in high demand, so students should plan on buying their pass early. Decals generally go on sale a couple months before the start of each quarter. Garage decals sell quickly for fall and winter since that's when weather gets cold and nasty, so plan to get your decal even earlier if possible. This ensures you'll have a guaranteed spot and not get stuck looking for street parking in the snow and slush. However, having a guaranteed spot comes with a price tag, and UC students will pay a pretty penny to park in a campus garage.

Did You Know?

Best Places to Find a Parking Spot
Side streets surrounding campus are free, so these places are ideal if you are willing to walk a little further to get to class. Most students park within a few blocks of campus, with Ohio Avenue and West Clifton Avenue being popular side streets to park on.

Good Luck Getting a Parking Spot Here
Curb parking on Martin Luther King Drive is desirable because it’s free and just a few steps off campus. but these spots are generally filled early in the morning, so unless you count on getting there at the crack of dawn, don’t count on parking here. There is some meter parking across the street (right along the perimeter of campus) but these fill up early, too. Don’t count on parking here for your daytime classes.
