Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students who don’t have a car don't have to worry about getting around because there are a number of transportation options. And, even better, most public transportation is free for UC students. The Bearcat Transportation System is a great way for students to get around campus, between East and West campus, or home instead of walking. There are plenty of shuttle stops, and the shuttles generally come every 10 minutes. On a rainy or cold day, it’s a nice way of getting to class from your car or dorm without having to walk across campus.

Students also like the Campus Transit System because it allows them to go Downtown or to some of the hot spots in Cincinnati for free. It saves on gas and allows students to travel to and from the bars safely. The shuttles pick up students from locations on and near campus and operate late on weekends, so you can stay out at the bars until closing time and have a safe, free ride home. UC students really enjoy being able to ride the Metro bus for free, especially since the company has raised the bus fare for non-students. Metro can get you anywhere you want to go, so when the University shuttles can’t take you there, there’s still another option. There are bus stops all around campus, so it’s easy to find a place to catch a bus. Schedules are easily accessible in Tangeman University Center at the information desk, and buses are generally on time. The buses aren’t the cleanest and tend to get a little crowded in the afternoons, so it may not be the best option, but at least it’s free.

Easy to Get Where You're Going

Because every building on the main campus is packed right in the same area, you can pretty much walk anywhere you need to go. Everyday, the campus also has a free shuttle called the Bearcat Transportation System, that runs between the main campus and the medical campus, as well as hangouts and dining areas around campus. If you want to go downtown for shopping, a Reds or Bengals game, or even across the river to Newport on the Levee, the campus shuttle will take you there for free on the weekends, and during the week you can take the city bus. UC also has Nightwalk, where if it's late and you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, you can call them and they'll pick you up where ever you are.

Shuttles

There is a Shuttle Service that has designated buses for certain areas. They are really convenient on bad weather days. They run all day until midnight. Some even run on the weekends. It is free and you do not need any sort of identification. There is even a shuttle tracker app you can download on your phone.

UC*Metro

UC students can ride Metro, Cincinnati’s public bus service, for free through a partnership between the bus service and the University. Students can travel to any location on one of Metro’s routes. This is also popular among students, especially those who need to get to the suburbs to go home. Since the bus is free with UC ID, students are using it more and more to get around town, specifically outside the area right around campus.
