Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Weather in Cincinnati is truly unpredictable—so much that most of the time even the local meteorologists have no idea what is going on. If you’re a fan of all the seasons, you’ll love Cincinnati because it is definitely a place that experiences everything weather has to offer. However, if you’re more of a warm weather person, it may not be the best climate for you. The biggest piece of advice to conquer the crazy weather here is to be prepared. Invest in a small umbrella that fits in your backpack because on any given day, a rain shower can come out of nowhere, even in the middle of winter. It also gets extremely windy on campus, especially when the wind sweeps between buildings. It may be a good idea to carry a sweater or jacket, especially in the fall and early spring. It may seem warm outside, but once the wind picks up, you’ll feel like it's 10 degrees colder. The wind is also known for flipping umbrellas inside out , so you may go through quite a few in your years at UC because they seem to lose the battle with the wind.

when packing, bring clothes for snow; a coat, hats, gloves, and scarves are important to have. It can get extremely cold, especially at night, and you don’t want to be caught walking home from class and freeze. Bring some snow boots too or at least shoes that are sufficient in the snow. A lot of times the sidewalks are pretty icy and slushy, even on campus. It’s no fun sitting through classes with wet, cold feet. During spring and autumn quarters, the weather is relatively mild and sunny. Bring a pair of sunglasses, a Frisbee, and your warm weather clothes. Students spend a lot of time outside on nice days, especially because the cold weather seems to plaque Cincinnati for so long.

Campus is the prefect size that if it is rainy, cold, hot, sunny, windy etc. It is small enough to get to your destination without suffering in the cold weather as much. Also, large enough to experience a nice day.

Snowy Commuter School

It snows a lot here, but classes hardly ever get cancelled, which is annoying. Classes are really far from the dorms, so it can get a little treacherous walking to class in ice and snow. But, once the weather turns nice, everyone hangs out outside.

Not a Big Impact

In any weather, it is easy to get to classes, as the grounds are relatively small. The only noteworthy complaint I can make is that the "Ohio Weather Rule" is definitely in effect. Basically, if the weather says it will rain, it will either rain hard, or not at all. Classes are usually unfazed by weather, so they are not likely to call off classes for snow.
