Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Some students come to CU passionately anticipating the football season. Others are left with no choice and eventually succumb to the efforts of others. Even if you don’t share the initial desire to paint yourself in yellow and cheer on the Buffaloes, there is a high probability that you will be swooped into the school spirit which flourishes at CU. Yet, if standing among a crowd of loyal football fans fails to entice you, there are a number of other athletic possibilities at CU, ranging from a top ski team to intramural ultimate Frisbee. Boulder itself is considered one of the most active towns in America, so there are many opportunities to get involved in on and off campus.

While it remains evident that the majority of students enjoy participating as both athletes and spectators, there is still a significant portion of students who are happy without getting involved. These students either enjoy academics or countless other activities available within Boulder. They can be found studying in a number of local coffee shops, or taking a light jog through the Boulder Creek Path. Skiers and avid snowboarders also prefer to spend their Saturday mornings following or forging trails through the mountains.

Meh

The athletics really aren't very good. The teams are terrible. The gym facilities are great, but school spirit is hard to get into. The tickets to some of the games are really out of the price range of a normal student.

Most Popular Sports

Given the team’s acclaimed recognition, men’s NCAA Division I football remains the most anticipated season, while men’s and women’s varsity basketball remain second.

Most Overlooked Teams

CU’s club sports are some of the most successful in the country. The mountain biking team has won a number of national championships. The men’s rowing, baseball, and volleyball teams are also successful.

School Spirit

There’s something about the University of Colorado that makes students and alumni act in strange ways. Naturally, when freshmen step foot on campus, they feel lost and somewhat unsettled. Their instincts tell them, “Hurry up and fit in!” They rush to the nearest bookstore and purchase as many things as possible embroidered with the CU name. Yet, while freshmen undoubtedly outdo the remainder of the student body when it comes to displaying their pride, throughout the football season, University spirit is at its highest. At the highly-anticipated home games, it is not uncommon to find fans painted head to toe in CU colors, with buffalo horns on their heads. Throughout the years, girls at CU have also managed to make an unofficial fashion show out of their Colorado gear. Recently, female students have applied the trend of cutting, and then sometimes re-sewing, CU T-shirts together, which makes dressing up for games anything but routine. In addition, older alumni travel from all over the United States to set up their tailgaiting parties. Those who can’t make the trip to the games simply stay glued to their TV sets at home. Yes, it can be said that something about this university makes us act in less than formal ways. What it is, we can’t exactly say. The only answer you may receive is: together, we will forever remain loyal Buffaloes.

Getting Tickets

Season Tickets are $110 for student tickets for football only and $130 for all athletics. Tickets are $20 a ticket and an extra $10 fee if you print them out rather than just using your Buff One card to get into the game.
