Undergrad Leeds School of Business

I want to start of saying the University of Colorado at Boulder didn't offer the major I wanted to pursue- kinesiology, so i was forced into the bschool. Right off the bat, i could tell they were just catering to the masses, with no single persons interest in mind but themselves. To further reinforce the negative connotation the Leeds school of business had, they brought in the main contributor; Michael Leeds (who donated 56 something million to our program.) wow what a selfless act right?? Of course many of our students are going to be attached to every word that spewed out of this mans mouth, assuming he had something worth listening to. To sum of his lecture, it went something like this: "well, if you can take over a family business i would highly recommend it..." Oh thank you all knowing Leeds, thank you for these ungodly words of wisdom. As of a matter of a fact, ill just ask my father right now to pass over the keys to his multimillion dollar cooperation. this man demotivated a lecture class of 430 kids, essentially implying they will amount to nothing without family connections. This is where my 54K out of state tuition is going-to fund this pathetic Business program. As you may be able to tell, i dont sleep well at night knowing that the quarter of a million dollar, 4 year education, will only earn me a bachelors in a school that barley made the top 100 cut for business schools in our nation.

Bottom line is I'm less than satisfied, and need out fast!

Something for Everyone...

CU attracts all kinds of people- hippies, stoners, frat boys, hipsters, jocks, preps, etc. There are tons of different social circles and pretty much something for everyone. As a whole, the people who go to CU are very attractive. Most people eat healthy and work out, which is super apparent when you walk around campus. Most of the girls are exceedingly gorgeous and a lot of the guys are super hot. The students in the greek system tend to be more clean-cut and preppy, while the unaffiliated students are often more laid-back and grungy. There is also a large gay and lesbian community. Like I said, there is something for everyone...

Campus Strictness at University of Colorado - Boulder

Hates the Party Reputation

There is definitely a huge strain between the university and the students at CU. The campus' administration obviously hates CU's party school reputation and does it's best to enforce strict social policies. Campus Police freely roam the halls of the dormitories at all hours of the night, and are granted access inside dorm rooms on any suspicion of illicit activities. Additionally, campus police have been known to hand out MIPs to students walking around campus as well as inside the dorms. They obvious cannot police the entire campus and all of it's students simply because CU is too huge, but they definitely do their best.

Maybe my perception is tainted after living in one of the party-centered dorms on main campus, but I find CU's policies to be very strict.

Absurd

The weather in Boulder is ridiculous. Over the course of one week, it can be 70 degrees and sunny one day, 50 degrees and raining the following day, 30 degrees snowing the next day, and 80 mph winds the day after that. Last semester, it was 80 degrees one day and then it snowed 12 inches the day after! The weather is absolutely unpredictable and at times really frustrating. On the plus side, however, Boulder gets over 300 days of sunshine a year because the weather changes so frequently.

It's the Best

Boulder is my dream school - it's everything I wanted college to be. The academics are great, the town is awesome, and the social scene is a total blast. Combine the quintessential college experience with tons of outdoor activities, great people, and an unconventional hippy influence, and you get CU. I never want to graduate.

Pretty Diverse...

Culturally, religiously, economically, and politically, Boulder is a very diverse place. There are lots of people with very of different opinions, ideas, interests, and upbringings. Boulder as a whole is definitely inclined towards a more leftist and liberal identity, but I think most philosophies and political attitudes are represented. CU is definitely a very tolerant and accepting community.

Economically, there is a pretty huge disparity between the in-state students and the out-of-state students. Most of the students from Colorado are lower-middle to middle class, while almost all of the out-of-state students are very wealthy.

Ethnically, Boulder is completely homogeneous. Unless a person is either a student athlete or an international student, he or she is almost always white.

Campus Dining at University of Colorado - Boulder

Something for Everyone...

The on-campus dining at CU is really good for dorm food. The C4C is a brand-new facility and offers a wide variety options so you don't get too bored. Some of the cooked food can be a little oily and they sometimes over-chill the salad bar, but for the most part the food is pretty good. The farrand grab and go is, in my opinion, the best dining hall on campus. They offer pasta, salad, chips, hot sandwiches, and made-to-order burgers. Plus all the food in farrand is organic - which I think is a huge plus. I've never been to Willville's dining halls but I've heard the food isn't too great. Libby sucks at everything except breakfast.

One thing I must commend CU for is the school's effort to cater to students with food allergies and specific dietary needs. As a student with a very restrictive diet, the dining halls at CU always had something new and different to offer me that wasn't just salad. From organic and vegan food options, to gluten free bread, to straight-up french fries every day of the week, the CU dining halls have something for everyone.

The Happiest Place in the U.S...

The city of Boulder is such a cool place to be. It's a fascinating combination of rowdy college students, yuppy hippies, hobos, tech genius', super-atheletes, and academic scholars. The town itself is beautiful and situated on the base of the Flatirons - so most of the locals participate in hiking, rock-climbing, and other outdoor activities. The nightlife in Boulder is a blast and the social scene on The Hill is legendary. Pearl Street and the 29th st. mall have tons of awesome shops, restaurants, etc. Last year Boulder was voted the happiest place in the country, and that ranking was well-deserved. The residents of Boulder are vibrant, happy, and healthy. It is a great place to live.

Greek Life at University of Colorado - Boulder

Go Greek at CU!

As a member of a predominant sorority at CU, I have nothing but positive things to say about our school's Greek System! Though greek life in Boulder may not be as substantial or influential as some of the southern schools, CU's greek system has an old and long-established history that makes it unique and significant. Boulder is home to numerous strong chapters and greeks are prevalent in all aspects of CU's campus.

The houses themselves are BEAUTIFUL. Some of the chapters are over 100 years old and are regarded as historical landmarks in the town of Boulder. CU doesn't really have a "greek row", but rather a central neighborhood where most of the fraternities and sororities are located.

Additionally, Boulder's greek system has been growing immensely over the past few years, and fall 2011's sorority recruitment was the largest in CU history.

Greek life definitely dominates a vast portion of Boulder's social scene. Basically all greek freshmen and sophomores and some unaffiliated underclassmen spend their weekends going to fraternity parties. The frat parties are always a blast - but unaffiliated boys are almost always excluded. The upperclassmen go to the bars on Pearl or throw parties at their houses/annexes.

The students in the greek system are typically wealthy and a lot of them are from out-of-state. Boulder greeks also tend to be more conservative than their unaffiliated counter parts (though, keep in mind that it's still Boulder). There are definitely top houses and the rivalries between the various sororities and fraternities can be very intense. Members of the top houses definitely fit the greek stereotype - attractive, wealthy, intelligent, and definitely know how to have a good time. But, most chapters also recruit on the basis of personality and value brother/sisterhood.

Off-Campus Housing at University of Colorado - Boulder

custudent15

Psychology '15

Lots of Options!

There are lots of off-campus options in Boulder. Most students choose to live in either apartments or houses on University Hill, which is located close to campus and dominates the social scene. The hill can be rowdy and populous any night of the week (and always on weekends), which makes it a really fun place to live. All of the sorority and fraternity houses are also located on The Hill.

Students who prefer a quieter residence can live either east of campus, in the Bear Creek Apartments, near table mesa, or in other neighborhoods around boulder. There are tons of housing opportunities in and around CU.

Rent can be really pricey, especially if you live on The Hill. Most landlords require you to commit to a full-year lease, meaning you either have to spend the summer in Boulder or find someone to sub-lease.

Boulder Is Environmentally and a Healthy College Town

Having the opportunity to attend a larger university coming from a small hawaiian town I thought would be a huge change. When I first came to Boulder I thought it'd be tough fitting in, but now I have more friends than ever. The campus is so big that we have bus shuttles to transfer students especially since my first year was resided in off campus dorms. The campus is not only huge but also beautiful. There are a wide variety of sports and activities to do and watch. They will come up with fun and new ideas for any type of student to enjoy. The provide a wide variety of clubs and cultural events which is perfect for my friends and I. Feeling safe and well protected in Boulder is no problem. Campus police are always on the watch for trouble. Shopping is another great activity my friends and I do enjoy, from a variety of stores like target down to my favorite victoria's secret. Boulder influences recycling and healthy lifestyles. Most students ride their bikes to class. Even dinning has the option of making healthier choices. I'm an architecture major and I love that the school sets your schedule up to have you graduate with all your required credit as fast as possible and get out into the work force. Everyone is really nice here and I'm glad I made the choice to apply for the University of Colorado at Boulder.

The Students Are Awesom

Everyone on campus is very active and social. Farrand Field is a centrally located open space that is used for anything and everything. Whether you like to throw a frisbee or toss around a football or maybe even tan, everyone knows this is the place to go on a nice day. The girls keep a very modern style and are kind. The guys all have their different style. There are sports freaks, gym rats, skaters, DJs and the enigmatic video gamers.

A very interesting, fast paced learning process. Workload is not too high, but when it comes to studying for the test, that is when you have a high work load. The curriculum is the same, from what I hear, as other colleges. There are always labs to sign up for and amazing people to work with.

You can walk to most places or take the free bus system, not horrible. Dorms can be awesome new like mine, or old as crap from the 1960s, all depends. Cost is medium, depends heavily on your income. People can either be really awesome or totally s****y mean. Housing is simple to get into.

Hippies and Non-Coloradoans

It's true, there are plenty of hippies, party-ers and druggies at CU. Both guys and girls. But CU is also full of incredibly hard working, intelligent and talented kids. The guys tend to be skiers or snowboarders, and the girls usually do the same but dress nicer. There are a lot of people from foreign countries, as well as from other areas of the U.S. Everyone here is accepting and kind, however. It's sunny in Colorado, and the people are always smiling.

Terrible

I filled out many scholarships and I failed to recieve any of them. I had a 3.4 in high school with all honor and AP classes. My parents make enough money (according to FASFA) but not enough to assist me pay for college. I have appealed many different ways to get assistance but I have been rejected over and over. If you are part of the majority of this school (white, middle class), you don't get any assistance. The school is very unhelpful when it comes to any financial aid. I suggest that people look for outside sources for aid assistance.

Time of My Life

The University of Colorado not only has all the classes I could possibly want to attend in any given semester, it has the atmosphere on game days, the beautiful views every morning, and the golden weather forecast the Colorado is very well know for. I cannot see myself anywhere else but here. I would honestly recommend this University to all of my friends and family members! I have had the time of my life thus far and will continue to until I graduate!

Boulder Tends to Be a Rather Attractive Community...

...but it depends on what you're looking for. There are a lot of "bro-type" guys here, and a lot of girls who seem to party a little too much. However, I have met some awesome people in both categories. There's really smart guys and frat boys all over the board. Many (maybe even most) people are a mix of both features.
