Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

What you can get away with on campus is determined by the strictness of your RAs and your own responsibility. RAs can write you up for being too loud, having too many guests in your room at the same time, and having alcohol or any illegal drugs. Multiple write-ups can cause you to lose your housing rights and land you on a waiting list (which usually leaves you without a place to live on campus). An RA's job entitles him or her to do room checks, making sure students are abiding by the housing contract. Respect the RAs, and they will respect you.

The University of Connecticut Police understand college students are going to drink and have parties. They won’t arrest students for being drunk, as long as they don’t cause disturbances. Also, don’t walk to a party with a labeled alcohol bottle (the plastic water bottle filled with liquor is a popular alternative, so no one knows what you’re actually drinking). Overall, the RAs and police are there to make sure everyone is safe. Don't forget: just because your parents aren't here doesn't mean that there aren't any rules to follow.

Not Very Strict

UConn is not very strict. Just don't be really obvious or obnoxious. Police will go to Carriage or Celeron and flash there lights at the entrance or near a party to cear it out, but they usually let people pass unless they're being wild.

Campus Strictness at UCONN

UCONN police are notorious for giving out parking tickets and for busting up parties. But they are usually fair when breaking up parties and are usually quick to respond if you need them.

Visitation Policies

Residents are permitted to have no more than two guests in their room at a time; however, if you keep the noise level down, it's likely no one would know there were more. Guests can visit any time of the year except Spring Weekend (UConn's largest party weekend of the year). There have been recent limitations put on the weekend to keep campus safe, including the exclusion of non-affiliated individuals.

Did You Know?
  • Alcohol containers and paraphernalia (beer balls, tables used for beer pong, funnels, kegs, games, or other items that promote the consumption of alcohol) are prohibited and may be disposed of or confiscated.
  • Gambling is prohibited in on-campus housing.
