Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Every student needs a laptop. While there are computer labs around campus, it’s better to have your own computer, to always have your work with you. You may choose to have a printer in your room, as well, since printing costs money, and it can be inconvenient to get to a computer lab. Both PC and Mac computers are used around UConn.

UConn has a wireless Internet network around campus. It can be spotty in dorm rooms, and some students buy their own routers and create their own connections to avoid a slow network. Overall, computers hold an entire college student's life together. When it comes to schoolwork, social networks, email, online courses—computers are essential. UConn has a reliable wireless network, so take advantage of it and don’t spend your time tethered to the wall at the library. There will be late-night studying and papers to write, and you’d rather be comfortable working in your room than in some computer lab. A laptop is the best investment students can make before coming to UConn.

UCONN Computers

There are many computers in different buildings around campus that students use. I'm never waiting to use one but then again most of the time I have my own with me. Wireless internet can be picked up around campus except for some of the dorms.

Savvy Tech

The computers at UCONN, for the most part, are very new and updated. There are a bunch of computer labs, and even laptops to borrow at the library if necessary. Printing on campus costs money, so it is advised to bring your own printer. The wireless and ethernet connection are both reliable, fast, and available almost anywhere, and any issues are quickly addressed by HuskyTech, the IT services run by students. Personal computers and printers are definitely suggested, since most students are using them for every single class and assignment.
