Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There are 43 cultural organizations on campus. From Italy to Russia, Ireland to Korea, all of the major countries are covered, and if they’re not, get your friends together and start a new group! The same goes for religious groups. There are 22 religious organizations at UConn, most of which are Christian.

Diversity seems to be prevalent throughout dorm buildings, and the school promotes equality and acceptance of differences. This is obvious with the amount of organizations and events that cultural and religious groups throw. Despite UConn’s efforts to enhance cultural and geographic diversity in recent years, the campus is still predominantly white. This is mostly due to the fact that 67 percent of students are from Connecticut, which as a state, isn’t as diverse as others.

Diversity Abounds

UConn has a very diverse student body! There are multiple student organizations, clubs, and other activities that focus on and celebrate the ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds of our students. The Student Union is home to several cultural centers, all of which are open to the entire college community.

Uconn Diversity

Fairly diverse campus, including any number of races and religions. The majority of campus is white and Christian; however, there is plenty of support for everyone, including student run organizations and a few different established places of worship on campus.

Easy Question

Diversity-like 80% WHITE, only people who are not white are people on sports teams and random internationals<--exaggeration I guess, there are a little bit more diversity but for the most part that's about right.

Acceptance?-I never did any AP classes and I got in if that means anything

There are a good amount of Cultural facilities: Puerto Rican and Latin American Cultural Center, Rainbow Center(not cultural but still), Asian American Cultural Center, etc.

Economic Background- A lot of White people = Really rich kids, not a bad thing but just an answer, of course there are poor people here and there, but majority rich

Political Beliefs-???its college

Religion-Muslim people are the only people I can tell are there because they have beards or the girls are wearing hijabs. For the most part everyone is christian in one way or another but they all go to different churches depending on their races, Korean, Chinese, White, Black, etc. So you would get a little community in you're church assuming you're big on religion.

Sexual Orientation- people are usually heterosexual here, people who are homosexual or any other sexuality, i believe, are dormed next to each other.

Facts

Gay Pride

The Rainbow Center is the organization on campus dedicated to creating a positive environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning people at the University of Connecticut. The Rainbow Center is working to promote gay tolerance, but the campus is definitely not as open-minded about gay rights as they would like to be. Past students have reported harassment and fear of negativity toward their sexuality.

Political Activity

Political organizations are not as prevalent as other clubs on campus, with only 10 groups. The largest group is USG, the Undergraduate Student Government, which is the primary recognized voice of the students.

Economic Status

Figures would probably show the bulk of the students coming from traditional, New England middle-income families. However, economic status does not seem to define a student or the social scene at UConn.

Most Common Religions

There are 22 religious clubs on campus, but most of them are Christian. However, there is a Muslim Student Association and Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life.

Minority Clubs on Campus

There are plenty of ethnicity-based clubs on campus, but some minority clubs are larger than others. The African American and Asian clubs are probably the most visible on campus, and usually participate in events such as those sponsored by SUBOG (Student Union Board of Governors).
