College Prowler Take

Since UConn is a public university, it receives funding from the state. Through the programs UConn 2000 and 21st Century, UConn has poured more than $2 billion into the school to improve the campus and its infrastructure. The changes have launched UConn ahead of a lot of other higher education institutions, and they are very visible. There is a running joke on campus that "UConn" stands for "University of Construction" because of all the new buildings constantly going up.

Even with all the positive alterations that have recently been completed on campus, it cannot be ignored that there is still work to be done. Some of the academic buildings are in desperate need of refurbishment and modernization. With that said, a majority of the classrooms are beautiful. The fieldhouse, library, business, and chemistry buildings are state-of-the-art. The pharmacy building shouldn’t disappoint either, in the spirit of the building for the College of Liberal Arts And Sciences (CLAS). The Student Union is spectacular, and improves the overall perspective on UConn’s facilities in a positive way.

Good Facilities

B+

There are tons of things to do on campus...almost every single club/facility/team you could ask for. I think this is one of the best things that UConn offers, especially because there is not much do off campus

Attractivness of Buildings

B+

The Homer Babbidge library could use a little update here and there, as could Koons Hall next to Wilbur Cross, and considering that Arjona and Monteith are being re-built, I think it goes without saying that they need alot of help. All of the North Campus dorms need a SERIOUS update. They are not pretty on the inside or out. Considering all of my classes are in these buildings and I live on North Campus it's a big deal to me that they get a face-lift if I have be there all the time. The campus as a whole is quite put together though and very pretty. It's part of the reason why I chose the school.

The facilities are good. UConn has been doing a lot of renovations and building new facilities. They completed the new School of Business building. There are many other new facilities as well, and the current ones are kept in good shape and are well maintained.

Favorite Things To Do

On campus at UConn, you can visit art galleries, check out the campus bookstore, and enjoy an amazing array of performances from rock to classical music to drama at Jorgenson and the CRT theaters. You can also work out in one of the two gyms, see a basketball game or other competitive sports match, a student recital, or a movie festival at Von Der Mehden Recital Hall.

SUBOG-sponsored events are usually a good time, and feature prizes as incentive for hibernating students to come out of their dorms. The e-mail sent to every student’s HuskyMail account, called The Focus, informs students about weekly events.
