Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Fraternities and sororities at UConn are a way for students to acclimate to college life, get involved on campus and in the community, and meet a lot of new people. However, besides the T-shirts members wear, non-Greek students won’t notice the Greek life on campus. Rush, Homecoming, and Greek Week are major fraternity and sorority events, but other than that, if you’re not a member, you probably won’t know anything about them.

The Greek scene is big for those in it, with many events and opportunities. But Greek life isn’t an overwhelming facet of UConn. Members and non-members coexist nicely. At the beginning of each semester, there is a Greek involvement fair where students can learn about each fraternity and sorority, and find the right one for them. There’s no pressure to join—Greek life is not for everyone. There are fraternity and sorority houses for members to live in, as well, creating a tight-knit community on the edge of campus.

Greek Life really is not a huge deal here because those who are not in one really do not care about them and view them as higher

You Love It or You Hate It

Greek life at UConn is big, but does not rule the school. If you are in a sorority you most likely love it. If you are not in a sorority, you most likely do not long to be in one. It's either your thing or not. Each sorority and fraternity has their own "reputation". Some girls are sweet, some girls are snobby. Housing for the greek community is husky village. The houses are pretty nice and air conditioned.

The Option Is There

If you want to join the greek scene, the option will always be there. They're pretty accepting of new and ambitious pledges. They throw a good amount of parties and tend to be selective of who can come. Regardless of whether or not you enter the greek system you will be able to find something to do any night of the week. Don't stress it.
