Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

UConn has been dubbed a "party school" over the years, and you’d be surprised by what little students have to work with. There are three bars on campus, and the parties are mostly located at off-campus apartments that can be quite a walk. Hartford is a half-hour away, but that adds the risk of drunk driving, and some students don’t have a car. If you’re underage or decide to give your liver a rest, SUBOG (Student Union Board of Governors) throws a lot of events on the weekends, including Late Night and movie viewing at the Student Union Theater.

There are always things going on at night during the warm months. In the winter, it seems like most people frequent the bars because they’re not as far of a walk as the parties. If you’re looking for a night of dancing, Thirsty Dog (“Thirsty’s”) and Huskies are where you’ll want to go, as opposed to Ted’s, which is more like a sports bar. Huskies also has pool tables and big-screen TVs for your enjoyment. All bars are relatively small, but they're packed every weekend.

Bars, Bars, Bars

There are only bars around and those are 21 plus. Seeing as how those are right across from the police station they WILL card you. Frat and house parties are your best bet and there are no shortages of sober drivers Thursday - Saturday nights. Depending on the service it'll cost about $2-4 dollars for a ride there and back, but much safer and more comfortable than walking/driving drunk.

Quite the Party School

Many of the dorms are quite noisy regularly on weekends and even just on weeknights. People are always going to parties and it can be quite distracting. If you really want to get some work done, you'll probably have to look elsewhere (like the library which is ALWAYS packed) Other than that, Uconn is a great school. The professors really are there to enrich and help you and in my honest opinion, I think they're the best part about Uconn. Dorms tend to be a ways away from most of your classes so always be preparded, especially on days when it looks like it might rain or snow.

Huskies

During the day, Huskies is a close-to-home college sports bar and restaurant with TVs, pool tables, and video games catering to UConn fans. At night, it becomes a club where UConn students dress to impress, complete with a dance floor and DJ spinning top 40 and hip-hop, while bartenders sling the nightly drink special.

Ted’s Restaurant & Bar

Ted's is the "sports bar" on campus. It's not the place to go if you want to dance all night to the latest hip-hop songs. Ted's has great drink specials every night of the week, live music, and the Bionic Beaver (you can't graduate without ordering one).
