Greek Life at University of Connecticut

The Option Is There

If you want to join the greek scene, the option will always be there. They're pretty accepting of new and ambitious pledges. They throw a good amount of parties and tend to be selective of who can come. Regardless of whether or not you enter the greek system you will be able to find something to do any night of the week. Don't stress it.

Its Great!

The night life is great if your looking for a fun time for all ages. If you dont feel comfortable drinking then there are still places for you and the people will not pressure you into drugs or alcohol. There are also a lot of drug free parties. The Greek live is a blast all in itself, but there is also a great time waiting for you if you don't want to go Greek

I love this school! Everyone is nice and open and they know how to have a great time and focus on their academics. They have very dedicated sports teams and fans and a great faculty to really make the university complete.

Windy

Its generally very windy, which can make it cold. The weather is generally nice during the fall and the spring, and you miss a lot of the bitter cold during winter break. It does get really cold though.

The Best Food Around

By far if you're looking for a great pizza Sgt. Pepperoni is the place to go. They make all kinds of pizza for any topping lover and will even deliver. In addition they make other dinner/lunch foods and the price is quiet convenient especially for being next to a college campus. If you're a wing lover Uconn has a place for you too! Wings over Storrs makes the tastiest buffalo wings and fries with an immense list of flavors. The place is cheap but the food is great!

University of Connecticut

The University of Connecticut may be located in the "middle of nowhere" according to some but it definitely is a city all on its own. The university provides numerous clubs, events, seminars, attractions for a students who is really interested in a good time. For history buffs, the location right near Willimantic is great. There is also the Civil War Museum in Rockville which is only 30 minutes away from the school. Hartford, the capital of Connecticut, is also only 45 minutes away. Sports are huge at the school. Football and basketball are the pride of the students. The basketball team won the national championship in 2011. School pride and community is everywhere. People are really proud to be UConn Huskies. The atmosphere is positive for the most part. The only downfall in my opinion is that students need to be more careful. I feel that on any college campus there are dangers, especially to students who walk off campus and on campus at night. Its always best to travel with at least one friend. The school is very safe, but even the safest schools have had their tragedies. I loved attending this school.

Everyone Is Cool

Everyone at Uconn is great. I've yet to meet a mean or rude person. People aren't afraid to wear their purple hair or say what they really feel. I think that it's great. There are so many clubs and organizations that you can find plenty of people with like interests. I love to see new faces everyday and to be in such a creative environment,it's plain awesome!

Awful, Really a Hassle

I don't have a car on campus and, if you live on campus or know someone with a car, I don't really think there is a need for a car. It can actually be more of a hassle. People who I know that have cars are always complaining about finding parking spots.

Guys...WOOF

I come from a city where guys prefer to surf and skate rather than sit in a chair with a bong on their lap. If you are looking for a grizzly then UConn's your place to troll for guys. But if you're looking for anything more, you're probably not going to find it here. To be fair I've seen about 15 decent looking men; all the rest are boys.

Great Greek Life

Greek life is a huge part of campus; Husky Village is an entire dorm area specifically for sororities and fraternities. Rushing and pledging is a very hectic but entertaining time; both sororities and fraternities try to get many involved in many ways. Non-Greeks tend to think Greeks are traditional stuck-up prissy students, but not all are like that. The school is pretty accepting.

More Afraid of the Cops Than the Students

I've been out and partied and never had an issue with anyone anywhere. If you are not a part person there are plenty of places where you can spend your time, or there are escort services that get you home ok without asking questions. However, what really scared me was when they closed down Spring Weekend 2011, what would be my first Spring Weekend (I was a freshman). They stopped all cars going through and wouldn't even let professors come in to give their students extra help that weekend. It was a police state, which is scarier than anything at UConn.

A Place for Everyone

This is a very good school for party people definitely. If you aren't a party person, we still have a strong academic program. The school is so large and has so many clubs and parts to it that there is a place for everyone.

Drinking Is the Big One

There are kids who smoke weed, but they are not very visible about it. Kids who drink are much more visible and as long as you don't do something stupid or illegal, the police won't give you a hard time.

There Are Options

Whether it is one of the 3 local bars; Ted's, Huskies, or Thirsty Bar there is option for the nightlife seeker. If your not 21 yet that's okay because there are many house parties thrown on every weekend. If your unsure where to go ask around to find out where 1st house or 2nd house or puke house is at.

There is a lot of school spirit at UCONN! For the NCAA Championship, the entire campus watched the game together at Gampel Pavillion and it was a lot of fun!

Great Variety!

There is such a great variety of food between the 8 dining halls. You can choose comfort food, all natural, foreign, almost anything you can think of. Time can be an issue though since the campus is so large, so do you have time to get where you want to go?

Guys

Guys at uconn are all pretty much average guys. many of them are extremely boring though. interesting, attractive guys are far and few between. sometimes guys can be serial monogamists and others are man whores just trying to sleep with everything that breathes.

Nice Dorms

Towers Complex is very nice, although you will stay in shape walking to class. Northwest is also nice. I would avoid West Campus if at all possible because they are very old dorms. Overall, the dorms are fine and, as always, they are what you make them.

Buses

At UConn, there are multiple bus routes getting you generally anywhere you need to be. Sometimes they might take some time, but they are usually on time, and they are free for everyone, no school ID needed, which is GREAT. The buses run until late at night, and usually only get packed when it's pouring rain out.
