Great Greek Life

Greek life is a huge part of campus; Husky Village is an entire dorm area specifically for sororities and fraternities. Rushing and pledging is a very hectic but entertaining time; both sororities and fraternities try to get many involved in many ways. Non-Greeks tend to think Greeks are traditional stuck-up prissy students, but not all are like that. The school is pretty accepting.

More Afraid of the Cops Than the Students

I've been out and partied and never had an issue with anyone anywhere. If you are not a part person there are plenty of places where you can spend your time, or there are escort services that get you home ok without asking questions. However, what really scared me was when they closed down Spring Weekend 2011, what would be my first Spring Weekend (I was a freshman). They stopped all cars going through and wouldn't even let professors come in to give their students extra help that weekend. It was a police state, which is scarier than anything at UConn.

A Place for Everyone

This is a very good school for party people definitely. If you aren't a party person, we still have a strong academic program. The school is so large and has so many clubs and parts to it that there is a place for everyone.

There Are Options

Whether it is one of the 3 local bars; Ted's, Huskies, or Thirsty Bar there is option for the nightlife seeker. If your not 21 yet that's okay because there are many house parties thrown on every weekend. If your unsure where to go ask around to find out where 1st house or 2nd house or puke house is at.

Sports Bring the Campus Together

There is a lot of school spirit at UCONN! For the NCAA Championship, the entire campus watched the game together at Gampel Pavillion and it was a lot of fun!

Great Variety!

There is such a great variety of food between the 8 dining halls. You can choose comfort food, all natural, foreign, almost anything you can think of. Time can be an issue though since the campus is so large, so do you have time to get where you want to go?

Nightlife at Uconn

UConn is infamous for its parties - including Spring Weekend (the weekend before finals). Anybody is able to come onto the campus at any point as there are no restrictions. There are bars right on campus which do hold 18+ nights as well. Many people who are underage drink on campus and the Resident Assistants are not too strict about parties as long as you are not being disruptive or destructive to the properties, people, or yourself. Transportation is brilliant at UConn - if you have had too much to drink or do not feel safe to travel back to your dorm by yourself, you are able to contact UConn's "Guard Dogs" who will drive you safely to your dorm. Every student is given their number when they enter as freshman.

Guys

Guys at uconn are all pretty much average guys. many of them are extremely boring though. interesting, attractive guys are far and few between. sometimes guys can be serial monogamists and others are man whores just trying to sleep with everything that breathes.

Nice Dorms

Towers Complex is very nice, although you will stay in shape walking to class. Northwest is also nice. I would avoid West Campus if at all possible because they are very old dorms. Overall, the dorms are fine and, as always, they are what you make them.

Lots of Variety

The nine dining halls on campus specialize in different types of food, and the menus are different enough on a daily basis that you can always find something you'd like. Towers and South probably have the best variety and are the most modern, if you don't mind crowds; East is a bit quieter but has excellent organic, locally-grown food; Northwest has the best comfort food and is open late, which is a plus.

Buses

At UConn, there are multiple bus routes getting you generally anywhere you need to be. Sometimes they might take some time, but they are usually on time, and they are free for everyone, no school ID needed, which is GREAT. The buses run until late at night, and usually only get packed when it's pouring rain out.

Create Your Experience

It sounds cliche, but college is really what you make of it. You are in complete control of your life for the first time. There are so many activities and opportunities available. You can do a complete 180 and change for the better (or worse.) Overall, everyone is pretty accepting here. It's not too hard to find your niche and group of friends.

It is very obvious who is Greek and who isn't. There are a lot of different fraternities and sororities, so there are many options. However, there is no pressure if you don't belong to any fraternities or sororities.

Blah..

The off-campus restaurants aren't the best. There are a couple of the same restaurants located on different ends of the campus. They sell the typical wings, pizza and sandwiches. There are also Subways, Wendy's and a Friendly's but nothing interesting or appealing to go out for a nice evening.

Hello, Spring Weekend

Whenever Spring Weekend season comes around, the school becomes somewhat unstable. Everyone is anxious for exams and ultimately the semester to end. Uconn is most famous for the 4-day weekend where everyone roams freely around campus, open parties and free drinks. There are activities to do during the day (i.e. on-campus carnival games, free food, and oozeball). At night though, is when 'the freaks come out.'People fly in from other schools just to attend this event.

I mean, its uconn. The women's basketball team never loses, the mens basketball team is always excellent, the soccer team is very good (and has a very good on campus following), and the football team is becoming one of the best in the big east. A++++

Computers at Uconn

The internet at UConn was pretty reliable in terms of wireless in the dorms. However, if the wireless was ever down the ethernets in the dorms often require splitters, which can be a bit annoying. My last year at the school they updated many of the computers, including the computers at the library, which were very nice Macs. However, I relied heavily on my personal laptop and I can't imagine not having that since the regular Windows desktops at the library or in the school are often being used and sometimes there are lines of students waiting to use them.
