Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

UConn has six shuttle bus routes that take students all over campus. The routes and times can be viewed on the Department of Parking and Transportation Services website. Buses run from 7 a.m. to 12 a.m., and there are late-night buses that run until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Apartment shuttles bring off-campus apartment residents to campus, but most students living off campus have cars and drive to class. The buses are usually on time, but in extreme weather, they can be delayed. Also, when it rains and snows, the buses can get very crowded, so get to the bus stop early. They’re reliable and a great alternative to long walks across campus.

To promote safety, Safe Ride programs were created so students don’t have to walk home at night. Husky Watch and GUARD (Giving UConn A Responsible Driver) Dogs are two organizations on campus that students can call to get a safe ride back to their dorm instead of walking in the dark.

Variety of Transportation Around Campus but...

The campus buses are great at UConn. They run until midnight and there are a variety of lines to get you where you need to go. There's also Escort, which is a van transportation service for if a student doesn't want to walk from Point A to Point B alone at night. The thing is that they sometimes will send a student to walk you to wherever you need to go. Not fun if it's one of those famously cold winters UConn seems to have. There's also GuardDOGS for inebriated students who can't get home for obvious reasons. Trying to get out of UConn is the problem; there aren't really many choices to get off campus. There are some charter buses that can come in handy, like Peter Pan and Megabus, that will get you to New York City or Boston or Providence. On Peter Pan's end, the rides can get a bit expensive if you're planning on leaving campus often.

Transpo Services

Excellent services including several free bus lines that go around campus, bus stops everywhere, and shuttles to nearby areas. Great services. Free and confidential service that picks you up after you've had too many drinks, too.
