Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Connecticut weather is typical of New England: mild winters and warm summers. When classes begin in the fall, the summer temperatures are still going strong. Some classroom buildings have air conditioning, but the dorms do not. Because of this, it’s likely that your windows will be open year-round, even during the winter months when the heat can be too warm in your building.

A raincoat is a must-have. Walking to class in the rain is not fun, and it’s even worse when you have to sit in class for 90 minutes soaking wet. Umbrellas are of no use here because it seems to be windy in every season. On the other hand, the wind makes the summer heat bearable, and the winter months 10 degrees colder. Make sure you have a good winter coat, as well. North Face jackets and fleeces are very popular at UConn because they protect you from the cold weather. But once winter’s over, everyone rushes outdoors. You will see people studying outside, running, playing Frisbee, or just soaking up the sun they’ve missed for the past four months.

Windy

Storrs is pretty windy year-round, but the weather isn't bad. Just carry an umbrella, dress appropriately, and welcome to New England! It can be hot, cold, sunny, cloudy...just bring clothes for any weather and check each morning before heading out for classes.

Windy

The campus is based off a design of a wind tunnel so during the cold winters where is snows a lot it is also extremely windy which makes it even more cold. But inside is warm!

Rain and Snow Mess up Your Day

When it snows here, they try not to cancel classes so you have to try your best to get to class. I live in the apartments and noticed that buses would sometimes skip our stop to avoid icey hills, but that means students running to classes in bad weather conditions. When it rains and you miss the bus it is a long way away from classes depending on where you live because UCONN is pretty big, but when it is sunny its a lovely place to be.
