College Prowler Take

You can survive, and even become a little plump, on dining hall meals. There is always plenty of food, but the food itself it not always so tasty. There are some people who are tremendously fond of the dining hall and sing its praises, but most students find themselves looking for other options pretty quickly. The food courts are a good place to use your points, and students often find themselves choosing fewer meals in favor of points.

After some time, students figure out which dining halls prepare which meals the best and move between them to satisfy their cravings. One of the major motivations to move off campus is the ability to escape the dining hall food. The dining hall experience gives you a new appreciation for cooking, and most students are happy to break away from the poor quality, tasteless meals that the dining plan offers.

Dining halls are pretty good because there is variety. There are some other kinds of really good places to eat, though, like Kate’s during the day, Caffé Gelato for dinner. These places are different than the dining hall, but are considered on campus.

It's really not that bad. In the beginning, it's really not good, but you get used to it and everyone seems to love their dining hall. And the dining hall isnt the ONLY place to eat, there are lots of normal restaurants and other places around campus.

On campus there are four dining halls that are located near many of the dorms. We also have other types of restaurant-style places that serve a lot of fast food-type meals. The main place like this is called Trabant. It has a variety of choices such as pizza, tacos, chicken, salads, and lots of other things.

Food on campus is expensive. When I lived on campus I ate at the dining halls a lot. This was not by choice but by necessity. If I tried to eat at Trabant (the student center) I would be broke in no time. The food is decent, but it is repetitive. I liked to go to different dining halls because each has its own thing that it does well. Russell has good omelets and hard ice cream. Rodney has a good pasta bar. Pencador has good sandwiches and ice cream bars. Kent is open late and was very close to my dorm.

There are two food courts. One is in the Trabant Center, and one called the Scrounge in the Perkins Student Center. You use your points, not your dining hall meals, to eat at the food courts. These are great and have cool stuff like mozzarella sticks, pizza, calzones, veggie wraps, cereal, fruit cups, salads, baked goods, and much more. There are also lots of snacks and sodas. The food is perhaps slightly higher quality here since it serves more than just UD students.
