College Prowler Take
Where you live can make all the difference to your college experience. This is not to say that there is any one great place to live, but that you should figure out which location will suit you best. For freshmen, the party dorms are Rodney and Dickenson, while the more studious dorms are on East Campus. The trade-off for the quieter setting is that East Campus is much prettier. Freshman housing tends to be cramped and overcrowded, with three to a room becoming more common every year. While the rooms may provide little privacy, this can lead to the bonding that many freshmen long for from their first year. Upperclassmen have many more options than freshmen and can find the most suitable rooms for their needs, be it privacy or a special interest. All students should try to live in a freshman dorm their first year; it will help them adjust to college life and learn about the on-campus housing options for future years.

The dorms are okay. For freshmen, I think Russell is the best. It has big rooms, friendly people, and the honors students are there, so it is not completely overrun by drunken idiots (Rodney Complex). For upperclassmen, I think North Central and South Central are great. They are very close to classes, and they are newly redone. Some of them even have air-conditioning. |

The dorms are very small and crowded. Most people prefer South Campus because it is right in the middle of everything and prettier. The U of D has a problem with accepting more freshmen than they can house, so tripling has become common in recent years. |

Freshmen tend to hate Dickenson...
Freshmen tend to hate Dickenson and Rodney, which were modeled after prison housing, but find the close confines to be a bonding experience, despite the constant noise from the trains. All dorms are wired with Ethernet connections, and most people put in a fridge, microwave, and a TV as the bare minimum of necessities. |

The dorms are okay. Some have air-conditioning, but they tend to be the smaller ones that are far from campus. Rodney rocks if you need to use that health insurance that you purchased. Dickenson sucks all around and so does Pencador. Go for Russell. |

Russell is the honors dorm and has...
Russell is the honors dorm and has a double room. There’s a computer area and a sleep area. In other words, it’s the same size as Pencador rooms, but has a wall separating your desk from your bed, which is nice. Thompson and Lane are also honors dorms. Sussex, Squire, and Smyth are freshman dorms, too. I wanted to live in Smyth. I suggest putting that as your first choice. It’s closer to class than any of the other dorms and it’s nice inside. Pencador is the farthest from everything else, but it’s a good place to do your work. You don’t meet a lot of people, but it’s a nice place. |
