Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The UD campus is mainly devoid of diversity in the undergraduate population. Those minority groups that do exist generally find each other and develop their own communities that drift in and out of interaction with the rest of the student population. They form their own clubs and organizations and assert their unique voice by coming together. Sometimes they even get through to the rest of the campus.

Some people complain that there are unfair housing tactics that relegate certain minority groups to the same area of campus housing, but the University has denied that this is so and claims that minority students generally ask to live together. UD does try hard to attract more minority students, but they find themselves with the problem that they cannot attract minority students to a campus that has so little diversity already present.

Melting Pot

The UD campus is home to a wide variety of cultures, ethnicities, religious affiliations, etc. People are typically very accepting of differences and there is not really one primary race, etc. Naturally there is a large caucasian population, but a large portion of students are black, asian, etc.

Facts

Gay Pride

There is tolerance of the gay community on campus, although it is rare to hear from them. There is a campus club, called Haven, dedicated to preserving the rights of every sexual orientation.

Political Activity

Most students are not involved in politics and have a very vague idea of what is going on in the political world at any given time. There are rarely any protests against anything; most students aren’t bothered by anything unless it affects their social lives.

Economic Status

While there is a mix of all economic classes on this campus, the large majority of students are from upper-middle-class backgrounds. The number of students driving BMWs seems to be increasing every year!

Most Common Religions

The most popular religion is Christianity. There is a strong minority following that is quite active in Christian-based clubs.

Minority Clubs on Campus

Minority clubs are very active within their own community, but rarely have an effect on the general population. One of the most active organizations is the Black Student Union. Some others are Caribbean Student Alliance, Chinese Cultural Student Association, Delaware African Student Association, Cosmopolitan Club (Europeans), Deutsches Club, HOLA Hispanic Student Association, Haven, Indian Students Association, Japaru, Korean Undergraduate Club, and Persian Club.
