Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Everyone has heard the rumors of how attractive the UD campus is. That isn’t a lie; there are attractive people walking around left and right. There are, however, plenty of normal, ordinary people walking around too. The main difference on this campus is its fascination for being completely put-together at all times. Even an ordinary-looking person can put on makeup or flattering clothes and contribute to the campus level of attractiveness. The difference between a person’s appearance on good or bad day can be drastic.

Another contributor to the hotness-factor is the popularity of working out. There are so many fitness opportunities on campus that there is never an excuse not to go. Physical health is strongly encouraged, and many services, such as personal trainers and customized workouts, are offered to students to keep them healthy. All of these factors together contribute to making this campus extremely attractive to the eye. If you don’t believe it, you can come check it out for yourself!

White White Middle Class White

Almost everyone at UD is white and for the most part middle class. Students are all generally very nice and friendly, but there is little to no diversity. For the most part people come from Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Long Island. Even though diversity is low, you'll meet all different types of personalities and there are very very few people stuck up or rude. Drinking is also big at UD and a lot of students like to party.

Good-looking people

Speaking on a superficial level the campus is known for having good looking people. There are more girls here than guys so it seems like guys have the advantage, however I never hear of girls having problems finding hook-ups or even boyfriends.

Not Enough Good Looking Guys!!

You will find that the ratio of girls to guys is 60/40. Sad part is that the guys are not that great looking and the good looking ones are all taken.

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

The social scene for the majority of students revolves around partying and drinking. People tend to be very preoccupied with their social lives and very eager to fit in and be "cool." The hottest conversation topic on Friday night is where the party is and who is going. If you are 21, then it is which bar you want to go to that night. People who don't drink attend UD events, or stay in their dorms or houses hanging out with other students who do not drink. UD has been working on entertainment for the non-drinking student population, but it is often hard to organize these events, and few students attend, as University events are not considered very cool. If you have a car, you can visit the surrounding cities for some entertainment, which is a common thing to do.

Hookups or Relationships?

Most people spend the first year or two making random hook-ups and going just a little bit crazy with their new-found freedom. Guys at this age are not looking for a relationship, while girls are split on the idea. Girls tend to date older guys, which is not necessarily bad, but often ends with the girl being taken advantage of. This happens most especially in a freshman girl/upperclassman guy relationship. As people mature, they tend to gravitate toward relationships, but they generally still go out and have a good time.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

If you are trying to meet members of the opposite sex, you really just need to open your mouth and say, "Hi." Almost every building on campus is coed, even dorms, so girls and guys are thrown together all the time. Dorms or houses tend to provide the most relaxed atmosphere for meeting people, but classes and parties are also good places. Many students find it easier to talk to the opposite sex at parties or bars with the addition of a few drinks—rejection doesn't hurt as much!

Dress Code

The common dress at this school is very Abercrombie & Fitch for daytime. That is not to say that every one follows this or that every one is always perfectly put together, but there is a definite adherence to the messy-on-purpose look. It is also quite common to see people in sweats, and even their pajamas on a particularly bad day! At night, there is a drastic change; guys and girls put extra time into looking their best. There is a fascination on our campus for really tight black pants and skimpy tank tops for female attire. Especially for freshmen. Guys tend to keep the Abercrombie look, but polish it up a bit at night. The classic hairstyle for guys is lots of gel with the hair in spikes up front. As girls get older, they stop caring quite so much about black pants, but the attire is still form-fitting.
