Nearly all students move off campus after their sophomore year into one of the options surrounding campus. UD students have nearly taken over all of the neighborhoods around campus, much to the dismay of the few remaining elderly residents who maliciously call the cops for any late-night noise. Options range from apartment complexes to houses, old and new. Some houses are extremely run-down, and students planning on partying hard usually look for these houses on purpose. Other students generally find something at least nicer than the dorms.
While most students find off-campus housing a more enjoyable experience than the dorms, you have to be careful about where you live. Certain areas are more dangerous than others, and some are considered Party Central. All the best places go first, so it's important to start looking early. Some students have had major issues with bad landlords who refuse to fix broken pipes and air conditioners and try to take advantage of them. There are also some very strict rules in the Newark standard lease that are worth paying careful attention to before signing.
