Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Parking on campus is a number-one pet-peeve of students. While there are many lots around campus to park your car, the parking permits are expensive, and the lots are never close to where you are trying to go. There are even lots so far away that they require a shuttle to get you to the class buildings. Most commuters end up having to park in these distant lots and ride in on the bus.

If you choose to flaunt the parking rules and park wherever you please, you will soon rack up a daunting amount in parking tickets. Each time you are caught in a lot without a permit, it is $25. This adds up very quickly. To force you to pay, the tickets end up on your student tuition bill, and if the bill is too high, you may not be allowed to register until you pay them off. Your diploma may even be withheld if you haven’t cleared yourself with public safety by the time you graduate. Parking is a tremendous hassle on campus, so if at all possible, you should use the shuttle buses or live close enough to campus to walk. If not, you are completely out of luck and you’d better start saving.

Parking

It's hard to get around to the stores if you're in need of things without a car and the parking permits to have a car on campus are very expensive. The parking permits also only allow you to park in certain lots and in most cases the lots are far from where you live so they aren't convenient. The university also just started charging for guest parking passes which to me is just ridiculous.

Awful

Its so hard finding convenient parking. You have to get there at least 30 min before your class to find anything remotely close to where classes are.

How convenient is off-campus parking?

Facts

Getting a Parking Permit

It’s very easy to get permits for the lots farthest away and least desirable. It is very hard to get the coveted gold pass that allows access to the most convenient parking spots on campus. To get one, you have to be a senior with 110 credits and some determined need, such as commuting. As most off-campus housing is too close to be considered commuting, these passes are rare among students.
