If you are a girl, it is best to avoid fraternity houses or be very careful if you choose to go. Many have been kicked off campus recently because of rape and hazing charges. The University is trying to make the campus safe, but it is often the case that the students just don’t know about the safety options available to them and fail to take advantage of them.

The unfortunate thing is that in the past few months, the campus and the town has grown more dangerous, with a lot of people getting robbed on the street. There was an attempted rape and a couple more serious assaults. Someone who lived in Newark for a long time says that these crime waves come occasionally but go away after a while. I certainly hope it doesn’t become a lasting trend.

Security and safety are great if you are a big guy. If you are female, get mace and maybe a gun.

Dining halls are pretty good because there is variety. There are some other kinds of really good places to eat, though, like Kate’s during the day, Caffé Gelato for dinner. These places are different than the dining hall, but are considered on campus.

The dorms are okay. For freshmen, I think Russell is the best. It has big rooms, friendly people, and the honors students are there, so it is not completely overrun by drunken idiots (Rodney Complex). For upperclassmen, I think North Central and South Central are great. They are very close to classes, and they are newly redone. Some of them even have air-conditioning.

Most people move off campus after two years. Off-campus housing is abundant, and most houses and apartment communities surrounding the campus are entirely filled with students.

The guys are overwhelmingly womanizers. There is this huge frat boy mentality, and most guys are just looking for a good time. You have to be really careful in finding a guy you can trust. Most people find a group where they fit in and go with that.

IM sports are big. Again, though, it is only big because the students participate. You get out of college what you put in. Varsity sports are pretty big—football and basketball mostly.

Depending on the varsity sport, it’s big. I mean football and basketball are big things, but sadly the girls’ sports don’t dominate too much. As for IM sports, I know people who play them, but they’re not that big of a deal.

Varsity football is huge. We’re Division I football as well as basketball. Our field hockey team is also well respected. IM sports aren’t that big of a thing.

I loved the University of Delaware. There was nowhere else I would rather have been. It is an amazing school, and I’m really going to miss it. I just graduated, so I’m a little upset about this whole thing. It’s been the best experience of my life, and I would not have done anything differently.

We have lots of great opportunities here, like summer research or the many study abroad programs. The food is good, and once you’ve made friends, you can generally find something cool to do. I’ve grown to like Delaware quite a bit, and think I made the right decision by going here.

I really love Delaware. It’s so fun and is an amazing school. There is always so much to do that it might make your head spin. The faculty is great, the students are great, and overall I love it there so much that I wouldn’t think about going somewhere else!

Another great place to live off campus is the apartments at Iron Ridge. It's about a 5-minute drive from campus and has cheaper and larger living space than on campus. It also comes with extras like a pool and tennis courts. It's also great for grad students!

The campus has been having some trouble with robbery and smaller crimes of that nature. The city of Newark is kind of a rough area, but normally it is totally hidden by the school. There were a few minor incidents, and the security on campus has doubled since then. If you want to find out about what happened, check the Delaware Web site and go to campus security where they have a list of any crime that has happened on campus.

Guys are pretty hot on campus if you know what to look for. Beware of the frat boys, though. Girls are pretty good looking, some better looking than others. Girls tend to be a bit more petty than the boys, especially beginning sophomore year, but freshman year it’s pretty fair game.

My overall experience has not been...

My overall experience has not been a good one so far. There have been shining moments and great people, but this was not the right college for me. I do not find getting drunk all the time to be a fulfilling way to spend my time. It’s fun, but it gets boring very quickly. It is true that there isn’t much else to do here. I would have preferred a more intellectual atmosphere that prized learning along with one’s social life. Here people forget that their main purpose is to learn; many truly believe that school is second to having a good time.

It's really not that bad. In the beginning, it's really not good, but you get used to it and everyone seems to love their dining hall. And the dining hall isnt the ONLY place to eat, there are lots of normal restaurants and other places around campus.
