College Prowler Take

Dining in Denver is varied and fun, and there are many different kinds of restaurants within walking distance from campus. Try Café Aroma, Garbanzo’s, or Jerusalem’s for Middle Eastern Cuisine, Tokyo Joe’s for a shrimp bowl, Chipotle for a chicken burrito, or Spanky’s for a cheeseburger. Most of the restaurants surrounding campus are pretty cheap and even more accessible with the FLEX meal plan.

Despite all the variety, though, eating at the same restaurants around campus time after time can get a little boring. When your taste buds are screaming for something new, head to other parts of the city. Restaurants downtown are known for their top-quality food and professional service. Although you may notice the difference in price as well, every now and again it’s good to splurge on “real” food. Many students head downtown in search of the perfect restaurant for a first date or to impress the parents. Another good thing about the Denver dining scene is the number of vegetarian options available. The vast majority of restaurants offer vegetarian dishes that are just as tasty, if not tastier, than their carnivorous counterparts.

Restaurants in Denver are okay, but I wouldn’t say they’re anything spectacular. Around campus, try Tokyo Joe’s for really good, fresh Japanese food. And it’s quick, so you’re not sitting and waiting for your food for forever. Chipotle is a favorite, too, because it’s cheap, fast, yummy, and you get a lot of food.

I’m usually too broke to eat off campus, but when I do, I go to Bruegger’s Bagels and Tokyo Joe’s. You get good food for pretty cheap, and they accept the flex meal plan. My friends and I also order from Papa John’s pizza once or twice a week. They have delish pizza.

Chipotle is top-notch as far as the food off campus is concerned. Another favorite spot is Tokyo Joe’s. It’s a fast food joint that serves Japanese dishes such as chicken bowls and sushi. A lot of students like it because it’s so healthy. If you don’t go for healthy food, though, there’s tons of places nearby you’ll probably like. Mustard’s Last Stand is your typical burger joint, and there are plenty of places around to order pizza from. Anthony’s has great pizza.
