The weather in very unpredictable. Its extremely hot in the summer and pretty cold in the winter but the in between never is constant. I enjoy having variety but it has proven a hassle.

We have one of the best Creative Writing programs in the country. The professors are helpful and super nice. The only reason I'm not giving an A+ is because we currently only have four professors plus another on sabbatical for a department that is growing rather rapidly and this makes it difficult to get into classes that you actually NEED.

Basically, if you don't have a car or a friend with a car, you're stuck here.

Greek life helps students get a broader connection with people.

I never really considered myself a city girl before, but coming from Fort Worth, TX, a city with around a million people, to Evansville was kind of a wake up call. There isn't much to do here. I don't personally have a car so I can't get around that much anyway but...when the most exciting part of your week is a trip to Panera Bread and Barnes & Noble, I'd say that's pretty dull. Especially if that's as exciting as it can get.
The upside, however, is Fall Fest, which is an AWESOME street festival held downtown in I believe October. It's basically just three blocks lined both ways with kiosks selling everything from "traditional" German foods like fried bologna, to cake balls, to bread pudding, to fried mac n' cheese, to donut burgers. There are also some carnival rides and live musical preformances but the food is the best part.

The city of Evansville is apparently the meth capital of the country. I don't actually know how well this is transferred to campus because I don't hang out with the kinds of people who do that sort of thing. I know pot tends to circulate, and some people smoke, though it seems to be mostly the Middle Eastern guys for whatever reason. Drinking is common from what I hear.

The state of Indiana apparently has a law which states that a house full of women is considered a brothel. Thus, though the sororities do have houses at which they meet, no one is allowed to live there. I find this rather amusing, though I'm not personally involved in Greek life. I did attend the rush events for some of my friends' sorority this year and it was fun, but I'm not very interested in that aspect of college.
I don't know very much about the fraternities. Sorry.

I'm living in Mortano for the second year in a row and it's pretty convenient. The placement is good for me, although the state of the building is a little questionable. We have four floors and no elevator. Also, the layout of the rooms is pretty inefficient. As someone who needs cold air to sleep, the fact that they turn the A/C off on October 15th bothers me too. I have spent some time visiting in Moore and Powell and personally think I would prefer living in Powell, although it's a bit out of the way of pretty much everything. Moore is also kind of out of the way, though it is closer to parking which is a plus. I also appreciate that we can actually open our windows in Morton/Brentano.

The school is very strict on the use of alcohol. UE is considered a dry campus. So any time a student is caught with alcohol, they have to suffer the consequences.
College Junior 2013-09-19T02:26:34Z
They finally have housing for the sororities, but the parties at the fraternity houses are always fun. They greeks have a lot of pride and aren't afraid to show it off.
College Junior 2013-09-19T02:25:01Z
There isn't too much diversity at UE when it comes to races and there are a high number of Catholics at the university. But the school does try and bring in many different international students to the university.
College Sophomore 2013-08-22T21:40:31Z
The drug scene isn't big at all really at UE on campus. It really does depend on who you hang out with and stuff but there's no complaint there.
Recent Alumnus 2013-08-13T04:57:14Z
UE is extremely diverse. There are loads of international students and a large gay community.

Parties at the Frats – There are registered parties about every other weekend at the frats and theyre really the only places to party around campus unless you are an athlete or a theatre major. There are constant theme parties, but drinking is not allowed on campus so security can end a party at an time. Lambda Chi is the most welcoming frat along with Fiji, with Lambda throwing the better parties. SAE throws some good parties but they do not let everyone into the house, even if they are UE students. Sig Ep rarely let's anyone males in unless they are other Sig Eps, but when they do their parties aren't bad. Besides parties, Greek life plays a small role on campus besides fueling intramurals

Some of the buildings are kind of old and a little out-dated, but if the Ridgway Center and the Schroeder School of Business reflect the changes to come then Evansville is about to be completely state of the art.

As a business major I could not be happier. I have many friends from home who are also studying majors, but at larger schools, who are astounded by some of the experiences I have had in the business school. Every business student is required to take an entrepreneurship class where they have to start their own business. The Schroeder School of Business is basically brand new, and completely state of the art and if you have any interest in global business Evansville is the place for you.

Guys & Girls:
Keep in mind that Evansville is a small school. Having said that, you can find all sorts of guys and girls at UE-fraternity brothers date athletes, sorority girls date regular students (muggles haha), and theater kids date athletes. A lot of UE students also date students from the University of Southern Indiana, a larger public school fifteen minutes across the town Evansville.

There is definitely an insufficient amount of parking spaces in the heart of the campus. However, the campus is small enough for this to only be an issue during the winter months. Luckily for any high schoolers looking at UE, the administration is planning on completely revamping the campus-which is supposed to add hundreds of parking spaces closer to the classrooms.

When I first enrolled as a freshman I would have given the local atmosphere a C-. There is not much to do unless you are 21. But once you can legally drink, the downtown area of Evansville is a great place to go out with friends and sample some of the local bars.

To begin, the only reason that campus dining is not getting an A is because students have to buy a meal plan unless they are a senior, live off campus, or live in "the villages" which consist of on campus apartments, houses, and town homes. Other than the lack of freedom to choose whether or not to have a meal plan campus dining is great, especially because there is only one cafeteria in the Ridgway Center. "Ridge" is a great place to meet with friends for lunch or dinner, or to catch up with a professor over a cup of coffee.
Recent Alumnus 2013-08-13T04:37:46Z
The drug scene at Evansville depends largely upon the group you hang out with, every college has students that smoke weed and dabble in coke but at Evansville these students are in the minority. Alcohol is the drug of choice, even though we are technically a dry campus. You will get in trouble if security catches you while intoxicated or in possession of alcohol even if you are 21+, but you have to be doing something really stupid to get caught.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
