College Town – The University of Florida is located in Gainesville, Florida. Gainesville is a suburban area slowly urbanizing. There is not as much to do as New York City, but students can still find places for entertainment, such as bars and restaurants that sit across the university. Students can go downtown and walk through the small shops. In the last few years, chains of frozen yogurt restaurants have opened up to cater to students desire of something sweet, but healthy to eat, such as Mochi. The city has a few movie theaters, the Oaks Mall, and big brands, such as Target, Walmart, and Publix. With his/her student ID, a student and two other non-UF individuals can access Lake Wauburg, which is a place that offers sailing, kayaking, rock climbing, etc for free. For students who do not want to leave campus, every Friday during the fall, spring, and summer B semester, UF offers Gator Nights. On this day, there are various activities that students and people from the Gainesville community can participant in and each Friday is a little different. In the past, there has been bouncy houses, concerts, free movie screenings, magicians, etc. Throughout the year, students from different cultural organizations have put on shows to demonstrate the uniqueness of their people and culture, such as the Japanese Festival, Tet Show, and Chinese New Year Show.
UF prides itself on keeping students and visitors as safe as possible. Students and visitors can sometimes see a police officer or two around campus. Also, throughout campus there are stations for concerned students to press a button and a police officer will show up within minutes to help. UF also offers the RTS bus that takes students across campus (this is free regardless) and the city for free as long as they have their student ID. Students can also access S.N.A.P, which is a van that picks up students at night across campus and transports them anywhere else on campus. S.N.A.P is a product of the UF Police Department.

Modern Education – The University of Florida is a wonderful undergraduate university. Even though it is not an Ivy League university, UF offers students a plethora of classes in different majors and minors. Classes are over during the fall, spring, and summer. In the last few years, UF has launched several online courses that caters to students who need more flexible study hours or just want to study from their home, especially over the summer. UF has over 100 different majors, including Japanese, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Nuclear Engineering. What I find special is the offering of African languages, such as Wolof and Yoruba. A down factor is the immense size of the university. UF caters to over 50,000 new students every years and has a student and faculty ratio of 21/1. However, rest assure that there is an advantage to these numbers. There are more opportunities to connect with interesting people and take classes not offered at other universities. UF offers tri-annual leisure courses in areas such as pottery, tai chi, and painting. The university has over 100 student ran organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity, the Vietnamese Student Association, and Health Education Asian Leaders (HEAL). UF has 16 colleges and more than 150 research centers and institutes. A prime objective of the university is to provide for students top-notch faculty members. UF is home to the Gatorade, most advanced citrus research, and Gator fans. Since its initiation in 1906, the Gators have won Gators have played in thirty-seven bowl games, won three national championships (1996, 2006, and 2008), and eight Southeastern Conference championships. Finally, through organizations such as IDEAL, SERCAAL (Southeast Regional Conference of Asian American Leaders), AKM (Asian Kaleidoscope Month), and Black History Month, students and the Gainesville community have the opportunity to hear professionals from various areas speak about their experiences, such as John Legend, Boris Kodjoe, Poreotix, Clara C, and Eliot Chang.

Guys & Girls:
Differing Tastes on Campus – At the University of Florida there are a variety of students with different tates and interests in music and dress. There are primarily Caucasian sororities and fraternities who can be counted on to blast country music from their cars. There are also minority fraternities and sororities who listen to music such as hip-hop, R & B, rap, and pop music. On campus there are many international students, mainly Asian and Indian who can be heard speaking in their native languages.

Although there are people of different races, ethnicities and religions, these students make up the minority. The majority of sudents who attend UF are Caucasian Americans. However, on campus I am proud to say that many of the students have groups of friends that are diverse encompassing many different ethnicities and races. There are many different clubs on campus that encourage students of different backgrounds to find common ground.

I'm part of a new major at the University of florida entitled Pre-Public Health which will focus on issues affeting healthcare. I'm also part of the pre-med program at my school. There are many opportunities to volunteer for a health major at the University of Florida primarily because there is a hospital on campus called Shand's hospital. There students have the opportunity to volunteer or to shadow employees.

Parking on campus is awful. There are not many spots available to park at and the ones where you can park at are usually so far from your classes that you must take a bus after parking just to get to your class.

There are many apartments to choose from in Gainesville. You can find apartments close to cammpus, though they are usually expensive. The further you get from campus the cheaper the apartments get. Parking is the biggest hassle in the city so you should get a decal where you live.

Health Education and Behavior – I'm in the Health and Human Performance college majoring in Health Education and Behavior with a specialization in Health Promotion. This major offers careers in many different job sectors. The professors have experience working in the fields and the curriculum is designed to prepare you for the workforce. There are many internships available through the college both locally and throughout the state.

The gyms on campus a big, beautiful, and up to date. The libraries are plentiful, comfortable, and convenient. The union is pretty decent, lots of food options and some decent study space. It would be nice if there were more outlets though!

The Good and the Bad – I have had many bad professors at UF, some were obnoxious or unhelpful, but most have been great. They respond to e-mails quickly, are flexible with their office hours, and enthusiastic and well-informed in their areas of expertise.

Very Hot – It's extremely hot and muggy in the summer. In the winter, it cools down somewhat.

Strict on Drugs – The campus police are all over drug violations. Most students drink instead.

The professors here are amazing. The only bad thing is the large class sizes.

So Many Choices! UF has a great transportation system, plus many other options. The buses hit every dorm on campus, and revolve around almost all student apartments. They are usually prompt, unless there's an excessive amount of traffic or construction. Riding the bus is free for all students with a valid student ID, and you can take the bus almost anywhere in town. Having a car on campus is pretty hard, unless you live on campus, and it's pretty pricey for where you can actually park. Scooters are a great way to get around campus and town. The school is also a stop for long distance travel from Gainesville to Miami so it's a good choice for students from South Florida who are trying to beat the high gas prices and toll prices, $40-50 round trip isn't too bad.

Get the Right Plan for You – When I lived on campus I had a meal plan that I never got through because there were just too many meals and not enough time to go the dining hall, especially if it was out of the way or between classes. However, with the right plan that doesn't limit you to only the dining halls, you can be sure that you're getting your money's worth on great food all over campus.

Diverse and Challenging – The school offers a great variety of majors, and the science based majors have a diverse and challenging curriculum. I came to UF because they had the only Nuclear Engineering school in the state, and every professor I've had has been a great help with not only academics but also recommendations for future careers after you graduate.

I would not trade my experince at the Univeristy of Florida for anything. It has helped me make friendships I know will endure for years. The atmosphere of the entire school swells whenever a football game is ongoing. The city is so passionate about the college. That even street signs are decorated with our school colors. Businesses will proudy sport a gator next to thier name and many places in town will accommodate students with specials. The people here have such a sense of purpose and are so driven to do better because they are a gator and that sense of feeling makes everyone feel like they aren't alone in their journey to become the best they can be.

Police on Campus – The University of Florida's Campus is supposed to be Tobacco Free, yet people smoke at the bus stops and walking to classes all the time. They will walk past an officer and they won't say a thing. Also, when it comes to partying or drnking, the cops do not really seem to car. I've seen cops pull over cars that were loaded with people heading to a party or club and they just said to drive safe. I have also witnessed people drunkenly vomiting on the side of the street while a cop just looks the other way. The only thing that they are really strict about is parking since it is so limited. If you have parked anywhere on campus without a decal you are more than likely going to end up with a parking ticket.

I am currently attending the University of Florida and now, going into my Junior year, have declared Anthropology as my major. It really was not that difficult of a choice because all of my professors have been extremely nice and all the course material that was presented, they presented in very interesting ways. All of them were not just teachers but were either current anthropologists, who would still travel out to Africa to do research, or they retired to teach. Either way they were able to bring first hand experience and stories into the classroom. Some teachers, because of the sheer size of the class, didn't seem as accesible to the students but most other would always encourage to be met with on their office hours and if you did go to visit them, they were almost always thrilled and eager to help.

Some Are Great While Others Are Rather Simple – The housing was rather boring. There were not many options when it came to on campus housing and all of the layouts were rather bland. The residence halls left a lot to desire. The resources in those halls are fantastic, but the halls themselves were not all that great.

Easy Access to Technology – The University of Florida has many computer labs that are easily accessed by student for their needs. There is no need to bring your own laptops as computers are provide for you along with wireless laser printers. Upgrades to the newest programs are regularly announced and relatively cheap to the average student.

Working Hard Is Only One Way to Stand Out – In my particular major, there are professors that are willing to help with anything they can, whether it is a shadowing program or tutoring. They go out of their way to make things easier since the course load is anything but. There are many interning opportunities that are open to each and every student. The diversity of the faculty and staff along with many students' educational backgrounds help create an atmosphere for success.

The University of Florida has an extensive amount of opportunities for financial aid. One of the reasons I chose to attend this university is because they were the college out of the 4 that I applied to that gave me the most money for my college expenses.

The University of FLorida is well known for its excellence in athletics. The fan support is outstanding and there are fans from the youngest to the oldest of generations all over then world. The school spirit is one that cannot be duplicated and can only be understood by the members of the Gator Nation!
