So Much to Keep You Busy – Gainesville has so much to do. Whether you want to work out at the gym, go out on the town, or grab something to eat you are only a quick bus ride to your destination. The Greek life makes Gainesville even more fun, providing a lot of things to do.

RTS Is Great – Buses are the way to go around campus. It is free for students to ride the bus with a student I.D. however, the do fill up pretty quickly in the busier parts of the day. There is usually a bus at a stop every 10-15 minutes but if it gets full for that route, you may be waiting for awhile. The Later Gator is great, safe alternative for students who want to go out at night, as opposed to driving.

There are limited opportunities for students to park on campus and these spots generally fill up quickly. Students do have to pay for decals to park on and off-campus in designated lots but this never guarantees that they will have a place to park.

Gatornation - School Spirit – There is a tremendous sense of school spirit at the University of Florida - both on and off campus. Once you are a Gator you are always a Gator - regardless of what you did your time there. Huge fan support of the athletics programs and the athletic facilities are top notch.

At UF we have a WIDE variety of students on campus, all different races and ethnicities! People tend to think

5 libraries, each one with a different field of study, each unique, but with more material than could ever be imagined.

The campus meal plans are great. You are able to select the plan that fits you and some include flex buck which allow you to eat at places off campus as well

My program which is music was easy at first and then progressively got harder. The first year is weed out classes where you are only expected to have good attendance.

I think the combination of all the programs, social scene and facilities makes this school unique

The parking on campus is tough to find. There is usually parking that you have to pay for and even then it is pretty far from places you have to walk.
If you park on inappropriate space you can get a ticket. Sometimes you can protest the ticket and they might reduce the fee depending on your explanation

The Social Life of the Gator Nation – The nightlife at University of Florida can vary. Gainesville is a college town and we do not have a luxury of being near a big town. Most clubs and bars are located on the same street. The bars are great and sometimes 18 year olds are allowed. Clubs atmosphere is great too but not as good as in the big cities. Underage nightlife is more strict that it used to be so it is better to just have a house party. Transportation is excellent as you have taxi, buses and even a program called SNAP that will take you anywhere.

The only time UF really cracks down on anything is speeding and in the dorms. The campus-wide speed limit is 20mph, but it's not hard to stick to because you'll probably get stuck behind a slow bus anyways. As to underage drinking, if you're drinking on campus, cops don't really care because most of them are alumni of fraternities at UF and understand.

No Money? No Friends. UF is a school that thrives on greek life. If you are not in a sorority or fraternity, you aren't welcome at most parties on campus. Most of the activities that happen on campus are philanthropies held by the greeks, which you have to be greek to enter. There is a large portion of the school that is not greek, but they are looked down upon. Go greek or go home.

Lunch in the Garden – The best place to go of-campus for lunch is Olive Garden. The "All-You-Can-Eat Soup, Salad, and Breadsticks" deal cannot be beaten. It;s much cheaper than eating on campus and a much healthier option. It's right down the road, no more than 5 minute drive away. It is not very busy at lunch time, as most people are either in class, sleeping, or eating on campus. If you're looking to save a buck and eat well, the Olive Garden is the place to be.

Bright Futures – Most students are on some sort of financial aid. Fill out FAFSA before UF's on-time due date to get the most aid.

Guys & Girls:
For the most part, people are super casual for classes. Girls spend hours getting ready to go out at night and on weekends though. Orange and Blue are highly prevalent wardrobe colors.

Gainesville and Surronding Areas – Gainesville is a nice town. Very college friendly. Great atmosphere. There are various restaurants, clubs, and bars around. Just overall, a great place to live and study. GO GATORS!

UF offers numerous merit scholarships to incoming freshmen, but they're diversity scholarships, meaning you have to be an ethnic minority, in need of financial aid, or from an extremely underrepresented group--in addition to being academically outstanding. If you qualify, however, the scholarship amount is extremely generous.

Drinking Is Most Popular, but Prescription Drugs on the Rise – In general, drug culture is something you have to go looking for. Marijuana usage is by far the most common--and usually available if you want to go looking for it--but drinking remains the most popular and pervasive activity. Prescription drug use, however, especially those drugs that give students a competitive edge (adderall, vyvanse) is on the rise. These drugs are particularly popular during midterms and finals.

How Greek Students Are Viewed by Non-Greeks – Greeks are viewed as generally attractive, ready to party, and overall less intelligent than the student body at-large. Greeks are also viewed as a privileged group--the common line of thinking is that you must be greek to be in student government, to join ACCENT (the speakers bureau), or to become a Cicerone (basically, you have to be greek to do anything prestigious on campus).
Sorry, there are no reviews.
