Big School Small Town – Gainesville is a small town but it has a huge student population. There are bars right across town but it seems that the same types of people go to them.

School Pride – Students there LOVE that they are gators. They have a lot of school pride and love their school. It brings everyone closer together.

Fairly Diverse – There are many different clubs for different races and ethnicities.

Health & Safety:
Fairly Safe Environment – I feel pretty safe around campus. Police are constantly patrolling the campus and there are free services to drive you around campus at night.

Interesting and Always Changing – The professors are always willing to help and you actually use what you learn in a class for future classes as well as in the work world.

There is not nearly enough parking. Live as close to campus as possible. Living on campus doesn't even guarantee you a spot! You could search for a while. And be VERY aware of parking restrictions- they will ticket you for ANYTHING.

UF is more known for its athletics than its academics. The atmosphere around the school on game day is something everyone should be able to experience. It enhances the student experience in unimaginable ways. There are also tons of ways for non professional athletes to be involved. The rec centers are state of the art, and there's an intramural sport for everyone.

I love everything about UF...except the administration. Student fees are constantly being raised, and the students' input is always ignored. However, I have absolutely no complaints about the campus or professors. Dorms are pretty average, but most have been remodeled lately. Dining hall food isn't worth the cost, but there are plenty of other options

There are there and are very involved but I live off campus and am not a member so I wouldn't know a whole lot about it.

I do not have a meal plan because I feel that it is too expensive but I think that the food places close too early anyways. I an still in school when they close for dinner.

They are very nice and we have a lot of libraries but the gym is a little bit difficult to access.

Rain Rain – Well, its Florida, so it rains all the time, however, there is not much drainage in some areas of campus. We water campus daily with reclaimed water (treated on the campus itself), so it may be hard for further absorption to occur on truly rainy days. I thought it was just another trend, but the rain-boots you see all the girls wearing around campus ARE actually necessary, not a fashion statement.

No Downloads – Our campus is strict on not allowing any illegal downloads to happen while logged into the school's network. A warning will flash on your computer and you can get kicked out of school if they push it.

Over 10 Libraries and Lots of Major Specific Labs – Though the libraries are always packed during finals, there is a 24 hour computer lab, as well as over 10 libraries that are specific to certain fields all over campus. Library hours are extended to 4 am during finals anyway so no worries.

Financial Aid is a roller coaster. My first year i got a pretty good package, which I am grateful for because I needed it, but for the upcoming year I am receiving significantly less because they have less to give away. The people who work in Financial Aid are very knowledgeable and willing to help, but the advice I'd give to someone would be to know what you want and need to discuss because they will be ready to answer all of your questions but often times you'll end up feeling like you didn't have enough questions and that they could probably have helped you more if they knew what you wanted to know.

Health & Safety:
Campus Safety – Make sure your bike is secured and in a place with other bikes, bike theft is common. Campus security heavily enforce the speed limits; a pain but i'm sure it helps keep pedestrians safe. Dorms aresecure so that those who do not belong won't be able to get where they want to go.

Dining in Gainesville – The University of Florida has very accessible off-campus dining. There is a very interesting variety of common favorites as well as really nice local places. Prices range from what you would expect.

Gainesville: the Dining Hot Spot – There are, literally, over 100 places to eat near and on campus, plus a lot of restaurants deliver! Being a college student, you probably get tired of eating pizza when you're too lazy to leave your dorm - but at UF, you are able to get a variety of food, such as subs, salad, wraps, burritos, and smoothies, delivered straight to your dorm. Also, UF understands the tight budget of every college students, so there are many readily available coupon books for nearby restaurants.

There are so many facilities at UF. A gigantic new gym was just built relatively close to campus. This gym is great because beyond there being so many cardio and weight machines, there is a full sized basketball court, plus a track circling the second floor. Also in the student union, there are bowling alleys and many pool tables, so you're never left with nothing to do.

Always Something Going on – If you want to go out, there's always something going on. Midtown has both 18+ and 21+ bars. Downtown is more of the clubbing scene. Certain nights of the week are better for going to midtown/downtown. Greek life is big on campus. If you live on campus, you can walk or SNAP(free UF transportation service) to midtown or fraternity row. Everything is reletively close.

The drug and alcohol policy is very strict at UF, especially in the dorms. Not even tobacco is allowed on campus anymore.

There are a wide variety of people at UF. Our campus is very diverse.

Parking sucks. They ticket like mad and there is hardly any parking available even if you have a decal. After parking is lifted in the evenings, parking sucks because everyone tries to park at the library at the time.

Decent, Somewhat Pricey – If you wanna live within walking distance from campus, expect to pay. There are places for cheaper, but they aren't that nice. Further away from campus, you can get cheap, nice housing, but you have to expect to take way more time getting to campus. The busses, however, are very helpful if you do that.
