Guys & Girls:
Varies from person to person. I feel like those who are in fraternities and sororities can be pretty rude sometimes.

Very beautiful campus on the outside

Some things are decent and then some could use renovations

There is a lot of cultural diversity here- but I sometimes feel like the majority of the school is white frat guys.

In short parking sucks. The price of a voucher is insane and it's temporary. Also there is not many parking spots to go with anyway.

Guys & Girls:
The girls are pretty nerdy but that doesn't mean they aren't fun to hang with. The cool thing about UF girls is that a lot of them workout and they have some nice bodies. At night Gainesville is a party city so most girls go out and drink with friends or if not they spend the night studying. Also girls like to wear yoga pants for some strange reason.

Sports at UF are taken very seriously. Football is the most supported sport as far as student involvement, fan support, school spirit and athletic facilities are concerned. The home UF football games really bring the city of Gainesville to life. A UF home game is definitely a special experience to all who may come.

The UF campus is large and there is a lot of walking involved in your academic and social life. Unfortunately, in the early fall and late spring, or if you're attending over the summer, the heat and humidity can become unbearable. There aren't really seasons in Gainesville and being in the middle of the state there isn't a lot of wind to help cool. As with the rest of Florida, thunderstorms are a part of life and you should always be prepared for sun or rain.

Health & Safety:
There is a fair amount of crime on campus, but we are alerted when any occurs via text message and e-mail. I've never lived on campus, but I know that most people move off as soon as possible, whether that's a choice due to safety or lifestyle probably depends on the person.

The old collegiate look is nice, but it feels very dingy in places. The "green spaces" are mostly grass and weeds, and computers on campus look like they have not been cleaned in 10 years.

Summers are the hottest, most humid and stagnant in the whole state. Then it becomes more mild in fall and spring, but with wide temperature fluctuations over the course of day (e.g. need a sweatshirt in the morning, then can't wear it in the afternoon and sweat while walking between classes). Winter can get very cold (by Florida standards).

There is a supposed "strict" honor code in place, and it is enforced strictly in some classes and contexts, but not others. Some online classes have webcam proctored exams, and some have no regulations at all. A major source of cheating are the groups of people I have seen in science classes who share all their materials, especially lab materials and old exams, with their friends after them.

A majority of students get scooters or motorcycles because otherwise you can't park on campus. Most students take the bus, ride bikes, or walk. You can only get a parking decal if you live on campus, and even then you have to park a mile away from your dorm.

Busses are pretty convenient in Gainesville. They even have "later gator" busses that run after hours. UF also has a program called "SNAP" which will drive you anywhere on campus after dark until 2am.

In the winter it gets to near freezing temperatures, and in the summer, it is sweltering hot. Gainesville is extremely humid from spring until fall, and it rains quite a bit, especially during hurricane season. However, the classrooms are normally kept a comfortable temperature, and there are plenty of busses to get you from point A to point B.

The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs department has several big events throughout the year including festivals, concerts and shows. Most students don't go more than a mile or two away from campus. There is plenty of restaurants, shopping, and nightlife nearby.

For the most part, public transportation meets expectations. There are buses that continuously run between campus and the apartment complexes around Gainesville. The best thing is that students are able to ride the buses for free!

There is an extremely wide variety of majors at UF. Whatever field you are interested in studying, there is a major or at least a minor that relates to that field. Most majors will accept anybody, but there are a few that you must apply for and compete against other students to get accepted in to the major. Also, most all of the academic majors and minors have excellent faculty advisers to help guide you along the way.

My favorite thing about the University of Florida are the countless opportunities offered when it comes to studying abroad. The UF International Center really assists students in selecting unique programs that enable them to gain international experience while studying subjects related to their majors. I spent the past summer studying abroad with UF, and it was by far the best experience I have had in college up to this point.

Hard to find parking because there is so many students. Permits are cost a lot and tickets are always begin handed out.

Most people are white at UF. But there is a little diversity.

Guys & Girls:
The lovely ladies of UF are some of the sweetest girls I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. The guys are really nice and everyone gets along for the most part. It really is an awesome place socially.

Gators fans are some of the best in the country. Sports are always a highlight of everyone weekend. Over 90,000 fans fill the Swamp every game day. As we say here at UF, "It's great to be a Florida Gator!"

Drugs are always part of a college campus. If you want to participate you can if you don't want to be around it, you don't have to.
College Sophomore 2013-10-02T14:08:05Z
You need to have certain credentials met if you decide to change majors into APK, however freshman should see their advisors and make sure they are staying on track.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
