But none are that great. Prices are steep in a bad economy, and many apartment rental places in Gainesville are extremely old (although effort is taken to make lobbies, gyms, etc., nice.)

High value into academics, numerous clubs/programs, diversity of individuals, great athletic program, etc.

Demanding and Competitive – I came to UF because its the best institution in Florida. It has an amazing Women's Studies and Gender Research department with a great staff and faculty. The department boasts itself in smaller class sizes and more professor-student interaction and support.

Even though many of the off-campus dining options give a lot of discounts for student, they should work a little harder to improve the cost of some meals that students sometimes can't pay.

Libraries, Gyms, Student Centers – There are several libraries ranging from music, art, education, science, etc. They are all extremely comfortable. Always a place close by wherever you are on campus to study.
There are great recreation centers. More that three, I know for a fact. They are of extremely high quality, have great equipment, diverse classes, access to tracks, pools, raquetball, etc.
Student Centers are amazing. Especially the Reitz. It includes several conference rooms, a food court, bookstore, career resource center, art gallery, arts and crafts basement, and so much more...

There are law enforcements at times on street corners keeping incoming traffic flowing and regulating the law. Bikers have to also abide by the rules as much as those that are conducting vehicles.

The University of Florida is really a college town. I love it coming fall semester knowing that football season has arrived. There is a sense of community unlike no other. I am from Miami and football season for the Miami Hurricanes doesn't even come close to the football seasons here in Gainesville. The people are very loving and very polite. I love this town.

Gainesville can be quite rainy and get quite chilly compared to the rest of Florida but its a beautiful place:) I love the sunshine state!

Strict and Stressful – Since the campus is so big, the parking enforcement is STRICT. Be careful! I would say to try and avoid having a car on campus for as long as possible! The police will bust you even if your parking permit expires THAT DAY. and theres never a promise you'll get a spot. The bus is free to UF students! Take the bus!

Awesome Dining Halls but Expensive – The meal plans are excellent and convienient, but only if you can afford them.... and BE CAREFUL for signing up for a meal plan. Its a two semester contract. You might be able to afford it this semester, but if you cant afford it the semester after, tough cookies! You still have to get the meal plan. Its very unfortunate.

Varies Widely – Dorm quality varies from building to building, but all locations are convenient and many are being remodeled and updated. In the Florida heat, A/C is important but all of the buildings have some sort of A/C.

Lots of Labs – Depending on the department you work in there are tons of computer labs available at certain times, particularly in the evenings when most students work on projects. Computers are very up-to-date. There is a free printing lab where all full-time students get 250 free pages of printing per semester.

Health & Safety:
Very Safe – I've never felt unsafe walking around campus. There are lights almost everywhere, emergency call buttons/phones all over campus and a service that will escort you if needed. I hear very little of campus safety violations.

You can find the most amazing, smart people here! The people are awesome, parties and nightlife are fun and the campus is beautiful.

Most bars are 18 and up so it's fun to just go out and dance! There are a few bars that are strictly 21& up so they attract a more mature crowd. Parties are fun too but harder to find!

Free Money? The only free money I've gotten is bright futures and that was very easily dispersed.

Gator sports are ahhhmazing! They're so much fun! Especially since we're really good at most of them. Whether you're at a basketball game, football, or gymnastics, you'll have a great time and leave feeling proud to be a Gator.

Gainesville is on the small side, it's definitely a college town, but there is always something to do. Especially on campus. Every Friday there are free activities and a movie in the Reitz. There are nightclubs, the regular movie theaters, a mall...normal attractions of a town. If you're a big city person, it wouldn't be so normal though.
College Senior 2011-01-30T02:15:15Z
We have an abundant amount of parking garages, they actually just built a new one a few days ago.

The Nightlife is really good for girls. All you need is to be 18 years old and we never have a cover charge. We harldy have house parties, but when we do there always fun.

Whether you are a student-athlete (those with FREE everything!) or just a student who wants to get active, you are in the perfect place! Not only does everyone in Gainesville walk absolutely EVERYWHERE, they also have plenty of opportunities to get involved with sports - whether it's watching a football game or joining an intramural sport. The SouthWest Recreation Center is a state-of-the-art 1 year old gym that has absolutely EVERYTHING! (even an indoor track to run on!) Aside from the amazing gym, there are plenty of fields and courts to play football, ultimate frisbee, soccer, or any other sports all around campus. If you think the sport you play is not at UF, think again! I have not come across any sport that is not a club or an organization at UF. There's really no way you will be adding on to the Freshman 15 at UF. If anything, you will lose weight here!
College Senior 2011-01-28T20:20:30Z
UF students seem to be very accepting. It almost seems as though we have more black, asian, religious, or gay communities than we do white communities. When you come to UF, expect a lot of members of the gay community to be roaming around. You must have an extremely open mind when coming to UF.

Although the school is well known for having excellence in academia, it will not seem that way for the first couple of years. I am a Freshman, every class I've had here is online or taught by a student. Online classes are extremely hard to keep up with and should not be allowed for fulltime students in my opinion. I feel that online classes should be reserved for students that have families and fulltime jobs or students with disabilities. However, UF enrolls most of its students in online classes because they enroll about 2-3 thousand students per class and as you know, only about 30 students can fit in a classroom if it is not in a lecture hall. In my opinion, UF "sets up" freshman to fail. They want to weed out as many people as possible with as little effort as possible. Furthermore, every other class I've had has been taught by a fellow student. This is absolutely ridiculous. I am not paying to go to this institution that is supposedly "the best university in the US" to be taught by someone that is the same age as me. The problem with student teachers is that they are very inexperienced and do not clarify many things. My chemistry "teacher" does not show up, does not say anything about assignments or due dates, and does not post anything on the website to let the students know about tests or due dates. My overall experience at UF has been very very poor due to the stress from teaching myself all the courses I've been in. It's absolutely awful and I understand why everyone says they only come here for the football.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
