Honestly, being a part of any major here would be great. The school makes sure you stay on track for your major and there's virtually no way to get behind. You are given all the information you need to know about your specific major. My major falls into the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and it is the third largest college here in the university. This means that they have many organizations and opportunities for every student.

A lot people come here to party, and there is quite a lot of freedom here, but also safety.

Academics is very high standard here. The expectations are high and the courses are rigorous all through out the semester, but hard work can pay off very well

My major is undecided but the classes I am taking there is a lot of work behind them and a lot of expectations to be met with the professors!

A lot of people use flex bucks. Personally I have not tried the campus services so I cannot judge.

University of Florida has a lot of spirit and charisma, especially towards the football team! There is always something going on and some place to be and people to meet!

Typical internships require the skills that not just college classes give you. You need to be friendly, confident in yourself, and confident in what you know. The pay is fine, but the real reward is the experience you gained and how it will apply to your career.

It is rigorous to be in my program, but I do enjoy it. I like it because it is more self taught than anything else. I practice by having enough time to sit and code until I conquer the goal.
College Freshman 2013-09-12T20:40:10Z
It was fairly easy to get into my program. I got a lot of experience from high school classes that have helped me greatly with my major.

I am fairly happy with my program that I chose. I am a computer science major, I have taken multiple classes to learn new languages and data structures from professionals. If I were to do it all over again, I wouldn't because I am happy. My career goals are to work for high companies like Apple, Google, or Microsoft. I do not have any concerns finding jobs in my field.

Health & Safety:
always felt safe. there are many safeguards on campus, such as phones, lights and patrolling regularly by police. they also offer a service that you can be picked up in a van and taken home safely if you are at the library late and don't need to be walking home alone!

like almost anywhere, alcohol and drug use is available but it is up to yourself to deal with it. meaning, who you hang out with, situations you put yourself in, etc.. surround yourself with people who have high standards and care about themselves and others and generally you will be o.k.

It's very easy to find drugs at UF. It's even easier to find a fake ID. Bars are pretty relaxed, especially if you have a second form.

All Gainesville buses are free for those with a valid student ID. RTS (regional transport services) have many buses with very efficient routes. The longest I've had to wait was 5 minutes. Another great service is the "Later Gator," this bus runs from midnight to 3:00 AM. Apart from the bus system, there is SNAP, a free taxi service that can be used around campus from 6 PM until 3:30 AM. You can call for the rides through an easy to navigate app. The last option is "Gotcha" which is a taxi service (not through the University of Florida) that is free, but you have to tip. Typically a dollar per person, but they will take you further off campus than SNAP.

Coming to the University of Florida was somewhat of a culture shock for me and my friends. Being exposed to varying political, sexual, and religious viewpoints helped me to become a well-rounded individual with a much better view of the world that exists outside of my bubble. Not only do the students come from diverse backgrounds, so do the staff and educators. each professor offers a unique outlook on their field of study. I appreciate this diversity and cannot imagine my college experience without it.

Personally I take great pride in UF's sports nutrition program. As a future dietitian, I have great goals to work with athletes and educate teams about the importance of nutrition. Volunteering through UF's nutrition team, I have learned valuable skills I could have never learned in a classroom setting. I also appreciate the diversity of clubs offered on campus. I for one have a passion for Student Government and as a Freshmen in college, I got involved right away through a new program, "Freshmen Leadership Outreach", which taught me just how important it is to be organized and self-motivated.

The University of Florida is unbeatable when it comes to academic standards. I take much pride in the education I am being given here at the University of Florida. The numerous study centers and locations meant to help each student find their way to success is outright astonishing. I also appreciate the Health and Wellness center because it comforts me knowing that the staff is concerned with our personal well- being as well as our education and professional growth.

I don't mind dorm living at UF at all. I love the social aspect of it and getting to know other people at my school. The only part I don't like is the communal bathrooms. I would just prefer to have my own personal bathroom so I don't have to worry about things like shower shoes.

Everyone told me that it was nearly impossible to get scholarships and financial aid at UF, but I actually got a good amount. I received a private scholarship, Bright Futures, and two grants.

Health & Safety:
I have always felt safe on campus. I have to go through 2 doors secured with key-fobs and a door with a key lock to get to my dorm room, and there has never been a reason for me to feel uncomfortable. I also feel safe everywhere else I go on campus, but I do avoid walking alone at night, as I would anywhere else.

I'm majoring in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering at UF, so my band of knowledge is centered on engineering. That said, engineering is the largest field at UF, and mechanical engineering is the largest degree in that field. UF's degree program for engineering is extremely in-depth, modern, and knowledgeable. UF is known for its school spirit, which shows. The great thing about UF for an engineer is its relevance in Florida. NASA and Cape Canaveral are just south, Lockheed Martin shows up to most if not all career showcases. If you're an engineer at UF, you can be sure that you'll be presented with quite a few opportunities.

As most Floridians know, UF is an extremely proud school, and we like to show off our school spirit with our gator logos and orange/blue clothing. This carries through, especially on campus. Most students are extremely spirited, and game days are crazy. UF is centrally located in Gainesville, and the college restaurants are to the north on W. University, while the big convenience shopping (Target, Walmart, the mall, etc) are to the south on Archer Rd. To get to Target from campus is a few miles on foot or bike, but the dedicated free busing can take you there every 15-20 minutes.

Currently living in the Hume Honors dormitory. A bit on the pricier side for a 2 person room (3300/semester) even compared to single rooms such as Riker Hall's (2400/semester). That said, the people in Hume are great, the rooms are nice and clean, and the shared bathroom is extremely convenient. Hume's proximity to the New Physics Building (NPB) is amazing, particularly for those intending on majoring in engineering.

I did not receive financial aid through FASFA, but the University of Florida was very good about helping me since I did not qualify for FASFA. I was able to receive a grant through the university which has helped a lot.

Academics at the University of Florida are great! Classes are very rigorous, but most will help you in the long run.
