The bus system is really good! However, it is very inconvenient to have a car if you live on or near campus.

The greek life is very strong, but also very diverse. Some students set stellar examples of how they positively influence campus, while some just reinforce the typical negative stereotype toward greeks.

I don't have a car, but the on campus bus transportation sytem runs pretty often.
College Sophomore 2013-06-28T14:55:56Z
It appears as if people go out everyday! I'm not really a part of this scene but there is definantly plenty of things to do at night to have fun. Transportaion is pretty good. The LaterGator bus system runs Thurs-Sat until 3 am and SNAP van service runs until 3.

Greek life = partying life. As an outsider looking in. I don't know many people who are Greek but from what I have observed it is all about your brothers/sisters. There is only Greek housing for the white fraternities and soroities I believe. I may join one in the future.

Smoke free campus, no drinking on campus with the exception of game days. Policies are clearly explained and strictly enforced by UFPD.

A mix of positive and negative. The greeks pretty much control student government and most aspects of social strata and have a tendency to strong arm 'GDI's. That said, their impact isn't entirely negative, they hold many positive events and fundraisers for underprivileged. They also serve to give the university some of the southern feel it is known for.

Granted, I did make some early mistakes and lose my scholarships, but when I decided to fix the problems I caused the punishment began. I give a B+ because every question I had was promptly answered, but mistakes are not forgiven. Then again that may be a mark of a great institution.

UF has a great price and quality selection when it comes to dorms. Theyre located near each other for the most part. The buildings have been in constant renovation for a few decades, so there are times where construction is a bit inconvenient. Social scene is wonderful and close to local hangouts.

Guys & Girls:
At UCSB, where I attended my first year of college, most everyone is hot. I hear the same is true for UF.
College Junior 2013-06-27T06:51:58Z
Again, I haven't started schhool there yet so I am not sure. Ask me about UCSB and I can tell you all about it though!
College Junior 2013-06-27T06:49:40Z
I haven't started at UF yet so I cannot be fully objective, but I am very eager to start and I've heard great things.

I was so inspired by my amazing university that I decided to write a teleplay series about it and its college town, Isla Vista. I have already completed two episodes. I love UCSB, and the fact that it is by the beach makes it all the more amazing. It's facilities are modern and completely propagate an environment of learning.

Curriculum is stimulating and the workload definitely keeps you busy but the teachers and ta's are very helpful. UF offers a a variety of majors ranging from healthcare, to journalism, to business, to engineering and more.

For the most part weather is pleasant, usually warm and sunny. In late spring there are a relatively large amount of afternoon showers which make it difficult to walk to class.

UF is the only university in Florida that offers my major of Animal Science. The classes are extremely interesting and the teachers are very enthusiastic about their respective fields of interest.

There are plenty of things to do at UF for both under and upper class men. Most of the bars don't charge cover and almost all of them allow 18 and up. Even if you don't drink there are plenty of places that have live music and good food.

Not only are there tons of diverse people on campus but there are also a variety of clubs and organizations centered around being proud of ones ethnicity, religion, hobbies etc. as well as organizations that bring people of all different backgrounds together.

Easy to find computer/printing labs, although often crowded. A personal computer and printer are highly recommended. Wireless access is largely good with a few spotty areas; however, on a laptop, updates are frequently required to remain connected to the wifi, which can be disruptive and annoying.

UF's weather is mostly hot and humid, with a pleasant, moderate winter and a small degree of seasonal changes in the fall and spring. The heat can be problematic in the warmer months, especially when classroom buildings are excessively air-conditioned, requiring a jacket when indoors. The warm weather doesn't typically stop students from congregating outdoors, but it can be annoying when crossing campus for classes.

The variety of housing is really great. There are very high-end apartments and condominiums and then very low end ones as well. Usually, you get what you pay for. If you're paying $350 a month, you should expect being able to hear the people above and around you and having a lot of things break in your apartment. There are also lots of houses for rent but I haven't seen many nice ones.

Parking is the worst at UF. It's pretty expensive (like $75 a semester) and the student parking spots are nowhere near any of the classes. Unless you live in a dorm, you can't park anywhere close to the middle of campus. If you do have a parking pass, good luck actually finding an available spot. And never park somewhere where you're not allowed to, parking enforcement will give you a $30 ticket. If there's 40 cars parked in the grass for a gymnastics meet, they will all get a ticket, unless it's a football game day, then there's free parking for all.
College Sophomore 2013-06-26T19:20:43Z
There is definitely a noticeable Caucasian presence. But living next to the international dorm and taking plenty of time to just wander around campus has shown me that people from all over the globe come to this school, from all different religions, ethnicities, and ages.

Computer lab in the student union provides 250 free pages of printing per semester, courtesy of student government. It can be pretty crowded at times, but this is mostly between class periods, as students are trying to print things for their next class. Also, avoid the lab on student government election days; it is used for voting and can become pretty chaotic.

It's Florida. It's sunny. Occasionally rainy. Expect random winters. Some days you'll be layered in coats and the next you'll be in shorts and a tank top.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
