Alcohol is pretty noticeable on campus but other drugs aren't very popular, at least on campus

There are always lots of students so there are lecture hall classes. Its easier to do things on your own but there are those few smaller classes with group projects. Pretty good school and workload depends on your major.

Football has gotten better, I guess but the other sports are really good.

2 Dining halls with average food. There are hubs and convenience stores around campus with Subway, Chic-Fil-A and KFC but these close early. Then there's the Reitz Union where the portions are a bit smaller than when you eat off campus and the food is average too. It gets boring eating from on campus locations and expensive too.

Gainesville is a college town with not many things to do besides what's provided by UF, eating at restaurants, shopping, going to parks, and the mall.

I would say that the diversity is pretty great at UF. We have an entire International House, although its not required that you live there if you're an international student. There are many different houses/clubs/organizations that represent cultures and religions such as Krishna, Hillel, Chabad, Muslim Student Organization, Caribbean student organization, and so many more. A large majority of the students are liberal, and accept and support all sexual orientations through clubs such as GSA and LGBTQ of UF. Although a large portion of the campus is liberal, I have seen many advertisements for "Gator Republicans" and groups for other political parites.

I think that the strictness is pretty fair. As long as you're not throwing loud parties in your dorm, the RAs pretty much stay out of your hair. Police aren't too strict except for parking if you respect them and stay out of their hair. If you do get caught for drinking in the dorms or being drunk while you're in the dorms, the RA has to write you up and call the police so DON'T get caught.

Sports at UF are great! School spirit is super important to every student at the school, no doubt! Even if you don't have football tickets, you go to tailgates! GO GATORS!

Lots of frat parties on the weekends, lots of clubs/bars are 18+ and some are even free on some nights of the week. Buses go downtown so its easy to get around before 3 AM and midtown is easily accessible walking from campus.
College Sophomore 2013-05-13T02:09:20Z
Compared to UCF and FSU, the clubs are smaller and not as popular. Most students over 21 go to midtown and enjoy the bars.

Greek life is very popular. Although "rush" is very stressful for new members. Greeks are very involved on campus and can live in the house, in a dorm, or off campus. Greeks and non-greeks kind of do their own thing.
College Sophomore 2013-05-13T02:04:46Z
Good environment, lots going on, chemistry department is a bit unfair.

The process of getting into my major was a breeze. I told my old advisor I wanted to switch from my old major and then I went to my new advisor and she switched me on the spot.

The public bus system is catered to the University. Also it's free for students.
College Junior 2013-05-10T23:15:40Z
The dining halls food is not terrible but it's also not something you want to keep eating for more than a semester or two. There's a good variety of chain restaurants on campus though.
College Junior 2013-05-10T23:10:51Z
There are some great local restaurants in Gainesville. Most are the hidden gem, mom and pop type places.
College Junior 2013-05-10T23:08:29Z
The dorms are typical but a bit on the pricey side. However most of them have very good location.
College Junior 2013-05-10T19:47:49Z
They classes are very challenging and some teachers are not helpful.
College Senior 2013-05-10T16:42:53Z
It is average due to the flex dollar system, which is not really useful. no one but freshmen use it.

Health & Safety:
The occasion UF Alert from the security system tells students who to watch out in the event of recent crimes, and the on-campus police station is accessible and offers safety programs for students. Gainesville itself can simply be dangerous at times.
College Senior 2013-05-10T16:37:49Z
Since it is an open campus, not much hasn't been seen or occurred on campus, but it is in some lights a positive influence, as students should see what the real world could be like.

Health & Safety:
I have never felt unsafe on the UF campus. Police are always around, and there are emergency lights throughout the campus. I usually walked with a friend if it was late, however the few times I walked alone at night I still did not feel threatened.

Because UF is such a large university, Greek life does not dominate the student population. I was personally involved in Greek life for two years, and ultimately decided it was not for me. Those who are involved seem to enjoy it to a great extent. There were great friendships and many opportunities for outreach, volunteering, and networking.

School Spirit is unmatched at the University of Florida. We are often ranking near the top in almost all sports that we take part in. Our football stadium is the #2 loudest stadium in college football according to Bleacher Report, http://bleacherreport.com/articles/470624-power-ranking-the-50-loudest-college-football-stadiums/page/50

Although the places to use the meal plan offered to students is plentiful, the food options at the campus dining halls are often sub-par. The staff that works at these locations are often trashy individuals who do not like coming to work and they make sure that people know it.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
