Campus parking is highly limited. The only reason it gets a c+ instead of a lower grade is because there is plenty of scooter parking, and most parking limitations are lifted in the evening. It's not so bad, except most classes are in the morning/ early afternoon.

Living on campus is great. Everything is walking distance, especially the library. I lived at Jennings and it was when it just got renovated so it was very nice. The only thing I didn't like was that it was a little far from the library. If I could go back, I would either dorm at murphry or Buckman. The only bad thing about those dorms are that they are a bit old and some rooms are fairly small, but they are very close to classes and libraries.

It is great. I currently live off campus and the bus to go to campus comes inside my housing community. It is very close to campus and grocery stores.

There is a strip of dining options located right off campus
College Senior 2013-05-06T18:01:53Z
There are good quality computers available in every corner of campus.

Guys & Girls:
There are a lot of frat people here. If that's your thing then UF is for you. Unfortunately, it's not mine.
College Sophomore 2013-05-03T05:39:36Z
They're alright. The classes do not go very in depth and the professors are average.
College Sophomore 2013-05-03T05:38:26Z
It's very difficult because they technically don't have my major so I have to go through a convoluted process in order to create it and it's still not exactly what I want.

Midtown and downtown are both really popular with students. That's where all the clubs and bars are. For the students that are more adventurous, Lake Wauberg is a really fun place to go, along with all of the hot springs that surround Gainesville
College Junior 2013-05-03T02:52:15Z
During the summer its hot and rainy, but during fall and spring semesters the weather is pretty nice. It can get cold but it's never cold enough to snow

The apartment style dorms are pretty good, you don't even need a meal plan because you get a kitchen. The meal plan does make life easier though and the food is alright.

Health & Safety:
I feel very secure on campus! Police cars are always visible. There is also Student Night Time Auxiliary Patrol (SNAP) which is always available for free rides anywhere on campus 8pm-3am for students. Students are encouraged to not walk alone at time. The bus system RTS is also very convenient and safe. Streets are mostly lit and as long as you are cautious, you are going to be just fine. Just make sure to be aware. There are UF Alerts that promptly alert you of any crime or suspicions on campus which are also very helpful.

Gainesville is a college town, therefore mostly everything outside of campus is usually catered toward the college population. Restaurants and stores do tend to close early, which can be inconvenient. Overall, theres not much to do but its not where you go, its who you're with. With such a large campus, you are bound to find something to do. There are some local bars and clubs that are fun. Some diners stay open late for students.

The computers at the printing lab are very few. Sometimes you have to wait for a while to print out papers, since it is free. But other than that, the wifi is always working and there are plenty of other computers to use in the libraries and student union centers. Network can be slow sometimes, but for the most part, its up and running. Guests can access students through the UFVisitor Wifi and students can access wifi using DHnet with their gatorlink username and password. Having a personal computer is recommended.
College Senior 2013-05-02T01:54:27Z
I use my personal computer at school, and it has not failed me yet! However, do not expect to go online if you have any programs that share or torrent downloaded information. Also, the computer lab is available for all students. They are located in several libraries and labs. A plus is that one of the libraries is open 24 hours a day. Also, you can get 250+ pages of free printing depending on your college.

If there are two things to remember about student campus life, it would be about the amazing Krishna lunch and the Turlington Plaza.
Krishna lunch, or what I like to call Krishna buffet offers vegan friendly meal and drink for about 4 dollars. Even though I don't know what I'm eating half the time, the spices and aroma make it tempting. The meal includes a main dish, side dish (varies every day) sweet dessert, and a salad with dressing, I like to call "crack dressing" because it's so delicious. The best thing about the Krishna meal is that you can come back for seconds, thirds, and even fourths. It's a good bang for your buck.
The Turlington Plaza has a potato statue and french fry statue. More likely than not, you will probably have to walk through the plaza at least once a day to get from class to class. Walking through the plaza is like being Indiana Jones on an adventure. Why? The things that go on in Turlington is like a maze or obstacle, depending on how you view it. There are dozen tables with different clubs and organizations with information at the plaza. And walking through, you'll either be chased or cooly waved by a person to get a a flier for an event. (That's how I got introduced to my club.) Theres always an activity like dancing, four square, or even a protest going on any time of the day. If you walk through Turlington, you're bound to get interested in something on campus.

I'll be honest and say that I've changed my major four times because I could not make up my mind. Colleges and courses at UF are not an easy stroll at the park, however, the professors, TAs, and faculty have been very accommodating to meet the students where we are at in order for us to achieve high expectations.
I have finally chosen a major, Family Youth and Community Sciences, that I'm satisfied with and even taken on a part time job (feels like a full time job) as a teacher's aide at special education elementary school.
I've spoken to my professors about this on several occasions, and they have helped me tremendously on applying my learned skills in my job.

High school grads want to go to UF for 3 reasons: it has the best education in Florida, it is Gator nation mania, and it's ranked one of the top party schools.
UF is a "party school" because the nightlife scene can fit any college student personality.
You like parties? No problem, your destined to go to a Greek sponsored themed party whether it's a word of mouth from your new roommates or high school buddy. It's a great way to get make friends and drink free beer.
What about raging? UF is close to a bundle of clubs for you to fist pump, salsa, rave, and even line dance to.
For those who enjoy the chill, alternative environment, downtown is lined with bars and pubs serving the best locally brewed beverage, and Hookah Lounges to sit, talk, and hookah.
And the best thing about Gainesville is can walk to any hot spot within minutes!

Great programs for student athlete tutoring and to become a student athlete tutor. Great sport programs for students interested in doing club or intramural sports as well.

Greek life runs the school. Getting involved in it will open a lot of doors for you. There are a lot of politics in greek life but it affords opportunities for invivoment and connections that would be more difficult to come by any other way.

There are computers located all over campus, with printing labs and I feel it is well planned out.

The parking at UF is not the greatest for connivence. I bought an off campus decal for 500 plus a semester so I could walk to campus. The bus system however works well for most students and is extremely efficient day and night.
College Senior 2013-04-30T23:41:02Z
2 dining halls, with one being slightly better than the other, but tons of chains on campus! The prices are slightly higher on campus than off, but it's not by that much. There's always something open until midnight which is very nice.
College Senior 2013-04-30T23:36:54Z
Gainesville is a true college town. The people here are friendly and the Gator Spirit is truly everywhere. The campus is old and beautiful, while the surrounding areas offer a nice collection of parks, residential areas, a small downtown, and pretty awesome restaurants. There is also nothing like a Gator football game!
College Junior 2013-04-30T16:09:29Z
Greek life is definitely prominent at UF. If it's something you're interested in, the opportunities are certainly there for you. If not, there are plenty of other ways to consolidate the 50,000 students on campus into your own group of friends. Student government and many things on campus are pretty much greek dominant, but just because you aren't greek absolutely does not mean that you can't get involved.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
