The Microbiology program is a great program with many opportunities. I enjoyed all of my classes and found them all to be relevant to to my field of study. Many research opportunities, including jobs, volunteer work, and internships are always available. My career goals are to go to Medical School and become an Emergency Department Physician. I do not have any concerns about finding a job because the health care field is on the rise.

Health & Safety:
I have never felt unsafe on campus. It is an open campus, but has many safety features on it. It is well lit and has good campus security, including blue light emergency stations where you can call for help. When called, emergency campus police will be on site in less than 60 seconds.

The application process was easy to complete but my college sent admission letters very late... July. This made making housing arrangements and plans very rushed.
As always, it is better to apply as early as possible.

There are quite a few basic places to go eat, like everything from Tijuana, Moes, and pizza places. Gainesville isn't home to many extravagant places to eat, but everything they do have is good quality and fairly affordable.

I think that Greek life is a big part of UF. A lot of things on campus revolve around being Greek, like dance marathon, relay for life and many other organizations. The majority of Panhellenic frats and sororities have houses. The sorority houses are top notch, and the fraternity houses are pretty dirty and could use a lot of work.

The weather in the state of Florida in general but especially at the University of Florida is bipolar. In the summer it gets very hot (I come from South Florida), and in the winter months it can get as low as the 20s. It rains sometimes but we rarely have any serious thunderstorms. Some days the weather is fantastic and days like today the sun never came out. Bring all types of clothing.

Maybe it is just me however I have had a negative experience with financial aide. I am entering my second year at the university and I basically just receive loans which is very disappointing. There are many scholarships offered and available but in my opinion they are difficult to be awarded if you are not a minority and are an only child.

The computers are all functioning and up to date. There is a free printing lab in the middle of campus, however it would be nice if the hours were extended or if more options were made available throughout the campus.

I came from a very diverse High School in Miami, and I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of diversity and tolerance of different cultures on the campus at the University of Florida.

Parking has improved, but it tends to be far away. You still have at least a 10 minute walk or you have to wait for the bus even if you drive onto campus. Parking decals aren't cheap, but are worth it if you don't have time for the transit system (especially if you have a job off campus).

Public Transportation is really good on campus. Sometimes you have to wait for a few buses right after each class due to the volume of students leaving. Many of the bus stops aren't covered, so it is unpleasant if you have to wait in the rain.

The labs usually have a lot of people, but I have always been able to find a spot to do homework. The connection speed is very fast and reliable. It's always good to have your own computer so if you can't find a computer available in the lab, you have a back up plan.

Varsity sports at UF are huge. We have large gymnasiums and places to work out or play recreational sports. People from all over the country come to see big home games and the seats are always full. Our school is partially known for our exceptional sports teams and school spirit. IM sports are also huge and many people watch those games as well.

Health & Safety:
I have rarely felt unsafe at my college's large ad beautiful campus. UFPD patrols the school at all times and are very quick to respond to threats ad violations. Theft is common for unattended items but as long as doors are locked and items are not left unattended it its uncommon for robbery. Free transportation services are available late at night.

I personally love the weather in Gainesville. It will be cool throughout the winter without any snow to worry about. The summer's however, can be quite hot and wet, but most people don't stay the summer so this shouldn't be that big of an issue.

As I'm only a freshman I haven't had very many Biomedical Engineering courses yet, but from what I know, this is a very difficult field to get into because you don't get to apply for the actual program until year and the University is very selective with who gets to enter. Thus it is very important to do the best of your abilities in your General Courses to be able to enter the Biomedical Engineering program your junior year.

Most of the professors are helpful and know how to teach their class, the curriculum isn't that overbearing so that it takes away all your free time but it is still rigorous and requires a lot of focus for you to succeed.

There are definitely a variety of places to choose from, ranging from typical chain restaurants to local restaurants that you would only find in Gainesville.

I liked living on campus. It was easy to get to know peopl and convenient to get to class.

I like the engineering program. It can be difficult to get all the classes you need when you need them.

I haven't had any internships yet but plan to have one. There are good career services at UF, however, there is a lot of competition for the internships. I will probably seek one on my own.

I entered my major Freshman year and had no problem. I was able easily meet with my advisor and we set a path of study. There was no special application process.

UF has an excellent engineering school. I would recommend it to anyone. Their graduates have jobs in top firms. I would definitely choose this major again. I hope to get a job in a top engineering firm and I think I will be able to get one.

In order to receive aid, one must fill out the FAFSA before UF's specific deadline then wait and view the financial aid package once it is disbursed.

this college is very diverse, there is always an array of people from different ethnic backgrounds on a daily basis
Sorry, there are no reviews.
