At UF, the parking is terrible, mostly because they give out a lot more parking passes than there are actual spots. Plus, a lot of the parking spaces are restricted to upperclassmen or faculty so the parking you will get as an underclassmen is usually very far away from your classes.

The campus isn't very strict, it's rather straightforward. Just don't do anything illegal.

The transportation system is really well thought out in Gainesville. There are several buses that reach every part of campus every five to ten minutes. There are also 15 minute buses that go further off campus to apartment complexes and the airport as well. Another good service is SNAP (Student Night Auxiliary Patrol) that will drive you anywhere on campus after calling them. Both of these transportation types are free.

If you have less than 60 credits, you can forget about finding a spot. Decals are given out based on how many credits you have. If you live off-campus, don't even think about driving to class

Greek life has decreased the size of a relatively large campus. I have a place to call home, a support system. Greek life provides me with opportunities to get involved in school organizations as well as in community service. Of course, the parties are a perk too

Students like riding the bus because there isn't a lot of parking on campus.
College Junior 2013-01-23T16:00:47Z
The professors are very knowledgeable in the subjects they are teaching.

The academics at the University of Florida are very good! The classes aren't too hard but students definitely have to work for a good grade.

There's two areas you can go to: midtown or downtown. Midtown is cheaper and right across from campus. Downtown is about a mile or so away from campus.

At such a big school you get people from every stereotype. I'm in a sorority so most of the people I'm around are very preppy.

Nursing major at University of Florida. Loved the program, wish the classes were a bit smaller though.

There is a wide variety of restaurants around the city of Gainesville for students to choose from. There are also restaurants that are specific to Gainesville which gives students a sense of closeness.

Guys & Girls:
There are plenty of different types of people on this campus, meaning there is someone for everyone to meet and get along with.

There are many dorms to choose from in all areas of campus. The bus routes also cover every area so students don't have to walk very far to and from classes.

The dorms are much older than other Universities in FL, such as FL state and USF. The quality of the dorms can vary, for example, some are very old and do not even have air conditioning, others are set up like apartments and have full kitchens and living rooms. However, the cost is good and it is safe. Also, you are close to everything on campus which will save you time and gas money.

The buildings are old and historic, which in my opinion is beautiful. However, the insides are far less picturesque. Although UF updates the classrooms, I wouldn't say that they are "state-of-the-art" facilities.
College Junior 2013-01-21T16:36:18Z
The academics at UF are excellent! It is awesome to be learning with such a high caliber of students and professors.
College Junior 2013-01-21T16:35:15Z
Gainesville is a pretty small town, because UF makes up almost all of it! But I would definitely say that there are many cultural activities such as museums and theaters that make Gainesville exciting.
College Junior 2013-01-21T16:33:02Z
The professors are amazing at UF! On numerous occasions, the professors are the ones that wrote the textbook for the class. They are very intelligent. I know they could be doing other things with their degrees (and probably earning much more), but their passion is to teach, which is evident.

I think UF has numerous options that can cater to almost anyone's dietary needs
College Junior 2013-01-21T01:24:53Z
There are tons of places to eat off-campus. There's a whole strip of restaurants just north of campus. Most places charge pretty much the same amount that on-campus restaurants charge
College Junior 2013-01-21T01:21:56Z
Apartments are definitely easy to come by in Gainesville. The further away you get from campus, the cheaper they get. The bus system is pretty good, you just have to deal with longer and more crowded bud rides if you live further away.
College Junior 2013-01-21T01:18:29Z
The food in the dining halls can get tiring after a while, but there are several restaurants on campus, such as Moe's, Chomp It, etc., that you can use your meal plan with without dipping into your flex bucks. Otherwise, flex bucks are a great way to add variety with the other restaurants on campus

As an art history major, I made kind of a gamble when I declared (my parents weren't too happy, either). However, I enjoyed all of the art history classes that I took and would have been miserable if I would have stayed in my original major (economics). If I could do it all over again, I might have designed my own major (as my school has this option). My goal is to find a job in a museum or maybe work for J. Crew or American Eagle someday. I do have some concerns about finding a job, as my school is not very helpful in assisting graduates, nor is the job outlook too promising for art history majors (or anyone!) right now.

While they do offer parking garages, spaces, and decals, parking isn't as viable as you would expect in a large university. Parking lots are often overcrowded during the day and sometimes even at night. Police will pull you over if they catch you unloading people/items in "wrong" places, like that spacious RESERVED area that's vacant and right next to your dorm for just a few minutes. They bar entrance to some lots on Game Days too. Overall, the campus loves bikes and buses a lot more, and offer bus routes to get to significant places. If you're the type of person who likes traveling long distances at night without using your legs, you'll need a car.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
