The process of getting into the Microbiology major as far as I know is fairly easy. I enrolled in classes that followed the critical tracking for the major, maintaining the required grades. I have not officially declared the major yet, as I am still in my first year.

Right now I am pleased with the Sociology department at my school. Once you take specific classes for your major, you'll notice that they are smaller and more interactive. Upper-division classes do require a lot of writing, but it does help sharpen my writing skills. The professors are also approachable, and I have the option to assist them with their research or do an internship off campus.

In the summer, it is very hot and humid, and this past summer it has rained a lot. In the fall you can feel the temperature change from humid to pretty nice. For the winter, it doesn't really snow, but temperatures can be as low as 20 degrees with a windchill.

Health & Safety:
Last year there were a number of incidents such as robberies and armed people on campus, and we were notified by UF Alerts. UF and GPD have taken care of these problems, but in a not so quick time frame. If you're going to go somewhere at night, be sure to have a couple of buddies with you, because walking alone at night can be quite scary.

My major is Sociology, and as long as I complete the required prerequisites and maintain a certain GPA, I am in the program. Now if you have a major such as Health Science or Nursing, you will have to formally apply to those programs during your sophomore year. Other than that, most majors you just fully declare by the end of your sophomore year if you meet the requirements.

The Advisers at the University of Florida's Electrical Engineering Department keep students well informed of department scholarship due dates and requirements.

There are plenty of sports facilities that have top of the line equipment. It would be hard to try to think of a sport or workout activity that they do not have equipment for a place to do it. Everything is excellent in this departemnt

There are a variety of restaurants on campus and off campus that range in prices. The only problem is that there are not many fancy places to take a date to in the area of fine dining (there are a few however).

Gainesville, FL is definitely a college town. There are many bars and clubs to go to if you are into that, and there are also a ton of churches too for someone like me to check out. There are not many attractions, and not much scenery to look at. One problem I've faced is that it's hard to find a date spot without knowing a lot about Gainesville.

Many different races, religions, sexuality, etc. attend the University of Florida. There are many organizations that offer a chance for anyone to find a group of people to relate to, the professors are very understanding and also diverse, and the students are very understanding of others.

I'm in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology. The education is variable, it's geared for doctorate school so as a freshman it can be overwhelming. The workload is tough, and the labs are time consuming. The amount of internships available though are countless.

Florida rains a lot! Poncho up, bring an umbrella and rain boots, and head out. There's buses that are free for students to use that I personally utilize during these rainy days.

Diversity is fully respected and can even be appreciated. Of course there are students who have been raised in a one race environment, but the university does a great job of accepting students from around the world, and it welcomes liberal minds.

Parking on campus is sparse and permits are expensive, however you can park anywhere on campus on the weekends without a permit and you can park anywhere on campus on the weekdays without a permit after about 5 pm. Parking tickets are $30.

The University of Florida is quick to process scholarships and offer many, but they aren't always easy to find and usually apply to only juniors or seniors.

There are many dining options all within five minutes of campus. The dining options vary in price and food types and coupon packets for local restaurants are easily available and abundant.

Guys & Girls:
Every person you speak to is very intellectual making it very easy to engage in a conversation with others. People are very friendly. One may find themselves having a conversation with the person they are sharing a table with in the library. There is definitely a lot of diversity making it easy to find your niche because there is something for everyone.

The food is not always appetizing and the hours for the vendors have strange hours that do are not always practical. Also, the weekend availability is too limited.

There are so many restaurants to choose from. They have a wide range of different kinds of food to choose from as well.

I love the atmosphere right around the campus however once you get further into Gainesville it becomes less safe. Downtown area is not as clean as the areas close to campus.

Weather is nice usually. It rains almost everyday in the afternoon during summer though.

Public transportation at UF is pretty good. The buses come frequently and there is always a way to get where you are going. I would say, however, that if you are trying to bring a car up to Gainesville with you, it may not be worth it. The parking at UF is not the most desirable in the world. It really only helps if you are an upperclassman. As a freshmen I would not recommend a car. But that is just my personal opinion. Everything on campus is within walking distance.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
