The transportation options are just awesome. The RTS bus system is really great, you almost never even have to plan ahead. Most people bike or walk too.

I have personally not taken part in the financial aid process.

All of the clubs are accessible to 18+ age. Furthermore, there are constant parties for every reason.

Drugs are highly prohibited in the UF Campus and if found, it can ultimately lead to expulsion.

The night bus service is terrible but the day time service is great.

I personally do not have a meal plan through the university. There are a few dining halls that tend to be expensive if you don't have flex bucks or some other sort of pre-paid meal plan. There are also restaurants around campus such as Subway, Panda Express, Moes, Chickfila, etc. Those are really popular and remind you that you don't have to eat campus food to be in college. It's all what you're willing to pay for.

Gainesville is a college town. Basically everyone has some relation to the university. It's amazing to see this entire small town unified over one thing, the university. Homecoming is a fabulous time of year because people from across the city come to UF to see the parade, go to gator growl, etc. The public schools in the county even have the Friday of homecoming off of school! This is a unique college experience because many schools are in large towns.

Everything is strict, but for everyone's good intentions. Too many students in the past year here have died from alcohol related issues. The strictness on alcohol is needed.

Guys & Girls:
The diversity of people at the University of Florida astounds me. There are frat guy and sorority girls but then there are hipsters, bookworms, athletes, and rednecks. The dress on campus is very diverse and interesting to look at. I like that you can be in a sorority but also friends with althetes. Typically, the fraternity/sorority culture overwhelms the rest of the culture at UF for looks and dress. This means a lot of people are dressed nicely or in their greek letters. Of course there are less attractive and more attractive people at UF; that happens everywhere. The interests on campus vary and you can see that in the types of clubs and organizations that are prominent on campus.
The greek system is very big on UF campus so there are always parties going on. However, there are parties going on for people who do not drink as well.
Relationships are great on campus; there is a strong heterosexual culture on campus but there is a LGBT culture as well that is accepted and celebrated.

The RTS bus system on campus is free and runs all the time. I live off campus and the bus comes every 9 minutes. You will still have to walk a lot on campus, but the bus sytems are very good at getting to and from campus from off campus in a reasonable time. The bus drivers are friendly and good drivers. The long distance transportation is limited to large tour buses that run around $45 per trip/direction to go anywhere. The RTS bus system will also go around town so it a local city bus as well as campus.

The weather is pretty nice during the fall and spring semesters, but the summer is thunder storms almost every single day. Not small thunderstorms either. Everything floods in Gainesville, so when it rains, it is a hassle to get anywhere. The winter is not too cold but the summer is pretty hot. Bring an umbrella for sure!

Printing in certain places is free up to 250 copies but otherwise you have to find places that will print for free such as the African American and Hispanic cultural centers. The computers on campus are actually fairly quick and there are plans to make both netbooks and Ipads available to borrow at the main Library. I would definitely suggest bringing your own laptop if you have one because these spots do fill up during midterm and finals time. The wireless internet is pretty dependable while around campus and in the library but some of the dorm rooms wireless connections are not the fastest. I would recommend bringing an ethernet cable for dorm use but otherwise the wireless speed is actually pretty impressive.

There are a lot of cool restaurants that are really close to campus and fairly cheap. The best and most popular are Pita Pit and Relish. They are the equivalent of Subway for both pitas and burgers. They are fairly cheap and open late and even deliver through a third party company.

On most days it is really nice. There are periods where it rains hard for a while so bring a rain jacket or umbrella. It is florida so of course it does get really hot near summer months but Gainesville can get chilly
College Sophomore 2012-12-11T20:51:40Z
The bus system on campus and around the campus can get you anywhere you need to go in a reasonable amount of time. It is free. Get a scooter though, way better
College Sophomore 2012-12-11T20:50:07Z
You don't need a car on campus. Parking on campus is terrible unless you are a senior and even then it is few and far between. If you park anywhere you aren't supposed to you WILL get a ticket. Towing in Gainesville is also very active. A good idea is to get a scooter. They work well for getting around campus and parking is a lot easier.

Health & Safety:
UF provides a free shuttle service for students at night time called SNAP which helps a lot with safety. I have never felt unsafe on campus. However, there are certain areas of the surrounding town of Gainesville where I wouldn't want to be alone at night.

A lot of bars downtown are 18+ and can be really fun if you enjoy dancing or cool eclectic vibes. Midtown refers to the bars along University Avenue, which are a mix of 18+ and 21+ bars and restaurants that convert to bars at night. There are always plenty of fraternity parties and house parties for underage students as well.

Gainesville is in between a small town and a city. There's plenty to do, with a cute downtown scene and lots of fun bars and restaurants along University Avenue. You get a typical college town feeling when you're here, which is one of the things I love about UF. FSU, our biggest rival, is about two hours away.

Parking on campus is a nightmare! Make sure to leave plenty of time before class or exams to ensure that you find a spot.

Health & Safety:
There has been alot of breaches in security around campus but not necessarily on campus. I am very paranoid in my apartment
College Sophomore 2012-12-09T03:43:04Z
There is nothing that students cannot do here, from underwear runs that donate clothes to charities to people running around shooting nerf guns. there is very little we cannot do here
College Sophomore 2012-12-09T03:41:21Z
I live in an apartment and it is very nice besides the fact that our windows don't fully close
Sorry, there are no reviews.
