The weather is your typical super hot summers with breezy autumn/fall weather and it typically gets pretty cold in the winter, around low 40s or 50s, sometimes freeze warnings are given for the nights. the summer is the worst because the rain is sporadic and it pours at random intervals for short periods of times sometimes or for long periods of times. If you are not drenched in sweat on your way to class because of the summer heat, hopefully you remembered your umbrella because otherwise you'll be drenched in water on your way to class. Take an umbrella wherever you go, even in the winter as it has rained during the winter months before and you definitely don't want to get stuck in that.

I'm not big on partying but there are plenty of clubs, and hangout locations within walking distance of the dorms if you really wanted to. Of the few house parties I've gone to the atmospheres are usually relaxed with drinking games and chatting. I have heard from friends of parties being broken up but mostly because of the noise level since they were living in an apartment complex. A lot of restaurants have problems with serving alcohol to minors and many were put on probation in the summer of 2011 because of it. The city has started to crack down on underage drinking. There are a few restaurant/bars that underage groups could go to and everyone is allowed into the clubs but anyone underage is stamped or given a bracelet so the servers know not to serve them alcohol. As for transportation the buses run til about midnight, and after that there is a service called SNAP that transports students around campus if they cannot find a ride. the problem with snap is that you absolutely have to be on or at least near campus or they will not reach you. Otherwise get a designated driver or use a taxi. It is never good to stay out late by yourself in Gainesville there have been quite a few assaults and robberies late at night.

The rec centers are really great and offer a variety of different classes at different times to fit your schedule. Southwest Rec is the most updated of the two rec centers and is an amazing facility if you are a workout buff. The libraries all cater to different styles. The architecture library is small and very homey and always quiet; it is the epitome of the traditional library. Library West is more updated and is more of a social library. you can get coffee, snacks, get a booth upstairs to study, sit in the lounge with a study group, or go towards the back where the books are for some quiet. Marston Library is similar to Library West and has loud and quiet floors for group study and review and self study. The Shands library is relatively quiet, I've only been in there once but it was a nice experience over all. The student center is a little bit of a maze at first because there are a variety of different ways to navigate to it, in it and around it. Once you figure it out its second nature. There are usually lots of campus activities but you wouldn't know much about them unless you lived on campus. the campus is traditional collegiate Gothic architecture style and is very homey feeling for being such a large campus. You can walk or take the bus everywhere, that is not an exaggeration. The bus system here is superb. Mopeds bikes and your own two feet are the best ways to move around on campus.

The Sunshine State – The perks of living in Florida is that it's always sunny which is great for outdoor sports. On the other hand, it's also always very humid so getting from point A to point B on the huge UF campus often leaves you sweaty and sticky.

Gator Nation! The UF football team is the heart of UF sports, however you will find many other sport teams.

The parking situation at UF is not so good, the parking decals for on campus parking are fairly expensive, and the student parking is divided into two major categories: under 60 credits and 60 credits and up, with the under 60 credit parking being much harder to find than the 60 credit and up parking, in order to favor upperclassmen. That being said, even parking for upperclassmen is often few and far between- the ratio of parking spots to students is terrible. I would never recommend counting on getting a parking spot at a specific time so you can be somewhere on campus at that specific time: you never know when you'll find a spot quickly and when you'll have to search for half an hour. That being said, the bus system is pretty good and makes up for the lack of parking since they go all over Gainesville, so transportation from an apartment off campus to campus via the bus is often the preferred mode of transport.

Drugs and Alcohol – UF is a tobacco free campus, so I rarely see people smoking. I have never really encountered an excessive amount of drug abuse, even at events. On campus, alcohol visibility is low, and usually restricted to private parties: I never see people walking around with open containers of alcohol. I have not experienced too much peer pressure, it exists but its manageable if you have confidence.

English Major – Most of my Professors are very experienced, and very willing to meet with students one-on-one to discuss projects and concerns. The workload varies depending on which classes you are taking, and there are many classes to choose from that go toward the major, including film classes and creative writing, along with traditional English classes in which students study plays and novels from various locations and time periods. Overall, I've been satisfied during my two semesters in the college.

Excellent Bus System – Our bus systems are extremely efficient and are included into our tuition, so it is free. However, areas of longer distance can get cumbersome or even impossible to reach on the bus.
College Senior 2012-03-14T16:51:16Z
Apartments Are Doable – Some students pay more to live on-campus than off. However, some of the off-campus housing can get really expensive due to modernization and luxury.

Health & Safety:
Somewhat Safe – No campus is entirely safe, but for the most part it is safe. There are a few robberies and assaults, but nothing rampant. However, I wouldn't advise walking alone too late at night.

Difficult but Not Impossible – There are scholarship opportunities for those who try hard to look for them. A little bit of effort goes a long way.

I lived on campus for two years and I loved it! The dorms are social and you can meet a lot of people. THere are also different types of dorms to choose from depending on your preferred dorm style preference. The dorms also have many events where you can get free food and meet more people. On campus living is located relatively close to the class room buildings.

There are plently of good resturants around gainesville. There are also many cusines ranging from japanese, mangolian, hispanic, american and many more. The price range for eating off campus is reasonably priced and the price ranges depending on your budget.

The city of Gainesville is a college town that focusus around UF. There are bus routes (main form of transportation to campus for most students) everywhere therefore having a car isnt necessary. Everything is located within a 20 minute radius. Sadly there is only one mall but its decent. Generally the people are friendly.

The weather is hot and humid mostly, but there are mild seasons. One day it's raining and the next is beautifully sunny. And when it is sunny, your mood lifts tremendously! Clear days are really beautiful on campus. But if you can't handle humidity, it's not for you. Invest in an umbrella and rain boots!

Off-Campus Food in Gainesville Is Awesome! Food options around campus are practically unlimited. There are really hip, fusion-like restaurants that are moderately priced, really delicious fast-paced restaurants that are cheap. The downtown area has great local options and the sushi/frozen yogurt restaurants are to die for! There are seriously no limitations on the type of food you can get here.

WiFi is easily accessible with your (free) Gator link account, the computer labs have seemingly brand-new, high tech, wide screen computers that run either Mac or Windows. There are plenty of useful programs free to use on the computers including Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, and many more that would otherwise be expensive. The printing lab is busy, but if you find other more hidden labs on campus there is plenty of space. Some labs are even 24 hours, which is valuable during finals.

UF is amazing, I absolutely love it. There are always people who study, always people who party and then the ones in between. It is a great campus with tons of school spirit (GO GATORS) and so much pride in everything we do ranging from athletics to academics.

Southwest rec center- is AWESOME, great facilities, tons of group fitness classes, private training, large cardio room/weight room/basketball courts etc. only downside is that it is far from campus and gets super crowded super quick
Campus aesthetics- greeks run the government and pretty much everything which is great when you are a part of it !
Library West- the undergraduate library, huge, starbucks in there and close to midtown, social scene, everyone you know is there because it is right on campus
Marston Library- science library
Law Library- GREAT, and not as crowded but if you breathe, sneeze, cough etc you all get the evil eye from all the law students

Lots of Options. There are many options for off campus housing at UF. There is also a bus system in the city that gets you to campus for free with your student id card.

Old Dorms – The dorms aren't the best in the country...some of the architecture on the outside is beautiful but many of them need renovations.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
