The University of Florida is a very diverse school with students attending from all over the United States and mostly, Florida. There are many Hispanics, African Americans, Asians, and Indians on campus and their are multiple ethnic and religious organizations students can join on campus.

College Town – Although Gainesville is a small city, it is very college centered. Therefore, there are many things to do. Both the Downtown area and Midtown area are a great location for dining during the day and night, as well as socializing. Filled with bars and clubs, students are guaranteed a fun night out with friends. Buses are free for UF students, so there is always a form of transportation to get around. Gainesville is filled with many different restaurants, ranging from Italian, Mexican, Cuban, or Asian. Also, there are many nice attractions to visit. A relaxing day could be spent at the beautiful Lake Wauberg, or one can travel a little farther to Ginnie Springs or Bob's River Place. Gainesville is also located two hours away south of Orlando or two hours north of Tallahasee, if one wants to get away for the weekend.

It's What I Expected – I am from the city that my University so it isn't very exciting but the professors are all good so far and my classes are interesting.

Nicer Options Available but Costly – Some of the dorms on campus are very old and not of good quality. A few of them don't have air conditioning. There are nicer dorms, such as Hume, the honors dorm, but they are very expensive.

Plentiful and Varied – You can find pretty much anything you're looking for. There is a variety of restaurants that serve all different kinds of food. Many of them are casual and affordable, but there are nicer options too. There are many places on University Avenue within walking distance and even more in driving distance.

The classes are hard, there are so many people its hard to make friends if you don't get involved and join clubs. The TAs are no help, they barely speak english and those tend to be for the hardest classes (chemistry, calculus, etc). Sports are free except football, and they give away tons of free stuff at games which is a plus. There are parties but people know how to balance pretty well. Party hard and study hard.

I haven't actually lived off campus yet, but am in the process of looking for a place. So far, every place I've seen is still nicer and cheaper than on campus. There are bus routes from each complex directly to campus and parking. Tons of amenities including washer and dryer in your apartment, full sized walk in closet in each room, and a private bathroom in each room. Most have an in room alarm system but you have to hook it up and pay for it yourself, but they do have officers who live on the properties and patrol. Unless you want very luxurious 1 bed/bath everything is cheaper than on campus. It is a college town so parties and noise typically do happen.

There are a few gyms spread out. About 4 libraries, all in the center of campus. The Reitz Union is filled with stuff for students, its location is at the heart of campus. Plenty of food restaurants on campus and off campus. About 5 or 6 Starbucks included. Depending on where your dorm is, you'll have to take the bus everywhere. Parking sucks, don't plan on having your car and going everywhere with it; park and leave it there till the weekend. Live on campus maybe just your freshmen year, its a huge ripoff and off campus is way cheaper with more amenities/luxuries. Classes are hard, mostly depending on your professors, but most especially the weed out classes like chemistry and calculus.

Difficult but Do-Able – Take advantage of every opportunity given to you in your high school- admissions will not compare you to other schools that have better opportunities
College Junior 2012-02-15T21:30:28Z
Permits are expansive, spaces are limited and not very conveniently located, EXTREMELY strict parking rules- tickets and fines are given often, not a large need or a car on campus unless living off campus and like to go home on weekends. Although the horrible parking situation does give one a reason to not want to bring a car to school.

There are clubs as well as regular frat parties. Very good transportation.

I do not have a parking decal for campus because they are too expensive, parking is limited, and other forms of transportation (ie: buses) are much more efficient and eco-friendly.

I LOVE how convenient it is to get any type of food in Gainesville. If you don't feel like physically going out, any restaurant delivers right to your front door.

There is no doubt in my mind that there is someone from every part of the world on this campus. Though UF is extremely selective in their admissions, they definitely do not hold anything against someone when it comes to diversity.

Start Early – Financial aid advisers are helpful but you have to make sure that you have plenty of time to do research and make all deadlines.

Walking around campus on can see diversity everywhere on goes. Different people and clubs show how UF is full of diversity.

Downtown and Midtown – While there are many "clubs" to choose from they are all basically the same. Midtown is full of frat and sorority people. Downtown can be sketchy and parking is horrible

Football, Football, Football – Most of the student body get excited about Football. They have a very large student support and great school spirit. The football stadium is amazing. Most other sports are overlooked and do not have the fan base that football does, especially women's sports.
Gator sports teams are usually top notch and are competitive at every level.

You Have to Be Very Proactive When Its Comes to Aid. UF knows that it is a high-quality school so it is extremely difficult to get merit-based aid. You have to be very alert for scholarship opportunities and do your best to have a great resume because you're often competing with your peers.
College Senior 2012-02-13T19:39:56Z
Definitely a Jock School – UF has great option for people who want to continue being active in athletics but aren't a scholarship athlete. Depending on your level of commitment you can join intramurals or a sports club/team.
College Junior 2012-02-13T19:16:17Z
Pretty Great – I love UF. It's pretty fun all the time. There is always something going on. The sports teams are all great and its so much fun to be apart of such a great atmosphere. The classes are pretty difficult, but manageable. It's kind of hard to meet new people, but when you do and you have your group of friends, it doesn't get any better.
College Junior 2012-02-13T19:13:31Z
More Alcohol Than Drugs – Drugs aren't really big, although it depends on who you hang out with. And the main drug is weed. Not every single person does it, obviously, but there are a good amount that do it occasionally. Drinking is what more people do.
College Junior 2012-02-13T19:10:57Z
Not Bad If You Know People – If you have a lot of friends, Gainesville will never be boring. The clubs are pretty good if you go with your friends. There are also a ton of parties always going on, but if you don't have a lot of friends, there's not much to do. You need to know where the parties at to have the fun.

Bike Is Best – Public transportation around Gainesville is fantastic and free for students. The buses run constantly around campus during the day, but between classes are very crowded so many students use bicycles to get quickly across campus or just walk. Some buses on campus do run at night, but there is a university-sponsored student-run van service that drives students anywhere they need to go around campus in between the night hours of 630pm and 3am. It's extremely convenient and helps keep the students from walking around alone at night.

The facilities at UF are great. There are multiple gyms on campus that offer quality equipment, fantastic exercise classes, and a safe environment to workout in. The student areas such as Reitz Union and the Hub have been recently renovated and are great places to get food, hang out with people, and get work done. The libraries are organized, comfortable, and conducive to studying with multiple floors and areas meant for a student's optimal learning environment. In general, the campus is clean and well organized and a great place to be a student.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
